However, during World War I this changed whenYYazoo became an important base for American military supplies reaching Europe through Lake Erie while also becoming home to many African Americans who were drafted into service or worked on their units. Afterward some residents returned to rebuild while others moved away during the Great Depression until recently when downtown redevelopment has resumed with plans for more than two thousand jobs within its walls Today Yazoo City is known for its distinctive architecture which reflects both its past and present condition; from Victorian-era log houses line Main Street to modernist buildings lining Railroad Boulevard; there is no area that does not have at least one popular attraction or commercial venture operating inside or outside of townlimits
