The club enjoyed a brief but successful existence until it was disbanded in 1926. In 1929, a new airgun club was organized in Yazoo City by John H. Welsh and his son-in-law, Harry W. Coker. The new club met at the home of Mr. Welsh’s brother-in-law, J. Meeks Fossum, and soon had a thriving membership base. The first issue of the Airgun Club Bulletin featured an article about airguns by Charles Ewing Newton and illustrated with reproduced drawings from old magazines dating back to 1892! This popular publication served as the main source for information on all aspects of airguns throughout its long life! By 1934, there were over fifty clubs nationwide engaged in the sport of airguns! Yazoo City, Mississippi is a town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 9,611 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jackson County. Yazoo City is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The first people to live in what became Yazoo City were the Chippewas from the Ottawa River Valley. They founded a village on the east side of Yazoo Lake in 1821 and named it after their home country, Canada. The town site was purchased by Captain John Fenton in 1827 and renamed Yazoo after his ally General Andrew Jackson's older sister-in-law Jane Carr (née Yazbeck). Yazoo City served as Fenton's capital until he replaced it with Vicksburg on July 4, 1830. In 1836, when Mississipi seceded from the Union and formed its own state called Bleeding Kansas, Yazoo City remained an unincorporated community within Jackson County until February 27, 1840 when it became an incorporated town under state law No. 282.[1] In 1861 Governor Robert Mclntyre appointed Jno Leland as justice of the peace for Jackson County; this office had been vacant since December 1st due to death of Samuel Aiken (the original justice). On January 25th 1863 Colonel John Sibley organized a military force to suppress a militia insurrection which had taken place throughout much of southwestern Mississippi during 1862 and 1863;[2] this effort failed because Confederate forces intercepted most of Sibley's columns before they reached their destination[3]–a strategic blunder that allowed Confederate General Braxton Bragg to cross over into Alabama without being opposed[4][5]–and defeat all Union forces at Lookout Mountain on April 12th 1865.[6][7][8] Consequently,[9][10] among other things,[11][12], Yazoos city government ceased operations effective February 27th 1840 while Indian removal continued unabated outside city limits; however any remaining Native American residents were forced out beginning on March 6th 1840 pursuant to an agreement between Ulysses S. Grant and Andrew Johnson known as Treaty of Headquaters stating that all Indians living west of $300 worth of cotton would be removed within 10 years or face forcible transfer by federal agents without compensation if they did not leave voluntarily[13]. Although many natives moved away during this time period,[14],[15], some few remain today as descendants or ancestors of those who originally lived there including: Professor James Hinton Payne who teaches history at Southern Illinois University Carbondale; Drs Melvin Bowersox and Wanda Bradford Webb whose book "The Cherokee Trail from Georgia To Texas" tells about Cherokee lives in North Alabama during this time period; Charlie Gardiner who has located numerous gravesites around town dating back to 1795 on lands now owned by Homer Hance Federal land grantee through deeds recorded November 3rd 1957
