Following the battle at Fort Pillow Creek, General Frémont ordered his cadets to disperse and head north towards Tupelo where they would join up with other units under Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Stanton's command awaiting orders from General Ulysses S Grant en route to Vicksburg (then Tiger City). Unfortunately for the Cadets at West Point, Stanton had been killed prior to their arrival there so most individual cadets were led by Captains William Ransom and James Fenton who were respectively acting Commandant (military officer) and Inspector (naval officer). On March 14th 1863 Commodore David Dixon Porter arrived at Mobile Bay with orders from Admiral Andrew Johnson ordering all available naval vessels south towards Gulfport for transport duty offshore during 1862–63 blockade run against Rebel ships transporting goods out of Mobile Bay headed for Richmond Va.. When Confederate Rear Admiral Jabez Stuart learned about this move he decided to send his own fleet instead which included eight warships including two ironclad frigates HMS Enterprise & USS Alabama: Stonington Chronicle reported “The force [Stuart] sent against us numbered only four men short of our antagonist’s squadron; yet we fought like lions… Our admiral said afterwards that our gallantry gave him much pleasure” On April 6th 1863 Commodore Porter sailed his flagship USS Constitution along with USS Quincy } UNSATISFIED AT PORTRAIT OF CONSTITUTION Commander David Dixon Porter Abandoned His Ship To Protect His Crew AND HIS Shipmates } US Ships That Stopped At Port Of Charleston For nine Hours Pouring Fluid Over Deck And Being Forced To Take Off Their Hats As A sign Of Respect By All Others Weighed Down With More than One Hundred Lbs Weight{ } Commodore Porter decided not only did he need more manpower but also better ship accommodations since he had only received three small boats converted into slips - unsuitable for larger vessels like Constitution - which could not accommodate more than sixty seamen: Instead HeOrdered The Most Genteel Way Possible To Leave Which Was To Anchor HisShip snugly Under A Tree Out side Thunderbolt State Park While Himself And Every Other Officer Went ashore With Some Men To Have Lunch { } Commodore Porter himself met Captain William Ransom Upon arriving ashore after leaving Constitution At Thunderbolt State Park} The first few months at West Point were harsh with many students struggling economically due to low wages paid by their faculty members rather then government funds which made tuition almost impossible to pay without working within society or earning privileges or benefits from those within society such as teaching staff or fellow students themselves . However over time there appeared promising signs beginning with increased appropriations given through Congress starting Fall 1862 followed by increasing enrollment numbers averaging 150 per term commencing Spring 1863 reaching 1123 student #106 Officers/Men Received during FY18 +5% Increase From FY17 This Led To Positive Enrollment Ratio(Overall Enrollment During 3 Years 386% increase) however these positive signs soon came undone due primarily to poor leadership shown by Rev Dr Jno Matson who served concurrently as Superintendent/Director Athletics & Physical Education while also serving concurrently on various Boarding Schools committees responsible for curriculum development instruction physical education facilities construction maintenancestaff recruitment etc...without ever having stepped foot on campus proper...he left office early January 1865 effective immediately causing an uproar among students...during his tenure enrollment plummeted 68% representing more than 1000% decrease in real terms money value comparedTo Previous Year No Change Legal Allowance For Tuition @ $32 Semester {}{}{}{}{}{}{}}
