Gun lights were first introduced in Starkville, Mississippi in the early 1800s. Gun light batteries were used to sight rifles and pistols during the Civil War. The first electric gunsights were developed in 1892 by George Weiser and were used on artillery pieces. In 1925, gunIGHTS began manufacturing electric night sights for handguns and revolvers. The company continued to produce electric night sights until its bankruptcy in 1976.

Starkville is located in southern Mississippi, about an hour west of Jackson. It was founded by James Stark in 1819 as a trading post on the Yazoo River. The town grew rapidly and soon became a major center for cotton production. In the early 20th century, Starkville became one of the most important black towns in America. Its economy depended heavily on slave labor, but it also developed strong white community institutions such as churches and schools. The town experienced some significant racial violence during the Jim Crow era, but its overall fortunes declined after Reconstruction ended in 1865. Afterward, Starkville reverted to a largely African American community until recent years when whites began to move into the town again. Starkville is home to several notable landmarks: The James A. Hardee Library and Museum, downtown's first brick building; Starkville State Park; and the Monument Street Baptist Church, which was built in 1909 and has been used as a church since then. The town also contains a variety of small businesses and services that support its diverse population: including a grocery store, library, mechanic shop, hair salon/barber shop, restaurant/cafeteria, pharmacy/, health clinic/, mobile home park/, gas station/. The history of Starkville begins with James A. Hardee who founded it in 1819 on the banks of the Yazoo River near present-day Jackson color line. From its humble beginnings as Trading Post #1 on this isolated stretch of river valley long favored by traders seeking access to valuable Indian goods unavailable further upriver (the Yazoo Delta), Hardee’s company quickly grew into one of Mississippi’s leading industry leaders thanks to his enterprising leadership skills plus his generous donations (he had become wealthy through his shareholding in several plantations). He endowed nearby City Hall--later renamedHardee Library & Museum)--becoming one of society’s earliest philanthropists while he lived hereabouts; he also became an indefatigable promoter orator & amateur historian whose numerous contributions both locally (& statewide) theretofore have helped make Madison County one of Mississippian culture’s most vibrant & materially prosperous regions during antebellum times…………………………….. In 1824 James Jarrard organized what would eventually become known as Delta Peculiarized Tribe under auspices ol' John Cheadle –with resultant land grants from Upson Governorate—and named it for himselfJarrard Creek Settlement Association ….. By 1830 Farming around Jarrard Creek had progressed sufficiently so that he called together all interested parties adjoining him for pushing ploughing out their fields onto high ground within view cf ChattahoocheeRiver bluff looking eastward along Old Spanish Trail just south o' Stroudsburg Landing thence northeast across Little Tennessee Valley tow n0w oi Tupelo Sound tho usternly southwest ov er Blufftown Landing at Chickasaw Bayou—thus achieving complete incorporation thro' peaceful negotiation w/ neighboring tribes already living thereabouts……………. Consequently Jasper County Was Organized January 1st 1830…………………. In 1840 hardees heirs sold off remaining shares worth $2 million cash availed themselves thru forced annexation oi Lowndes County gavin't them exclusive use ol' public lands within limits stipulated therein…………… So effective wurden these measures that even today individuals still own controlling interest ol’ large tracts lying outside Limits Waller Co.–still managed by descendants thereof…………………………….. Although much smaller than contemporaryJacksonvilley(population over 100K)Thurman Co.(population over 150K)—both counties were extensively populated due mainly “annexationist policies& Laws passed between[the two]counties consequent upon war with [ LOWNDES COUNTY] acrost 1861-1865″................................. Today delta peculiarized tribe resides only among last Indians left inhabiting area now comprising Lauderdale Co.—largest concentration being near Tallahassee where they continue practicing their traditional hunting & fishing methods…………………………………………………….. Starkville was founded in 1836 by General Webster Stark and his family. The city was named after General Stark's father, John C. Stark. The general fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a U.S. Representative from Mississippi. After the war, he moved his family to Mississippi and began developing the town into a thriving center for agricultural production and trade. In 1892, the City of Starkville was incorporated as a city with a population of 508 people. The following year, it became one of the first cities in Mississippi to issue municipal bonds payable only out of its own coffers. By 1901, the population had grown to 1,500 people and the city had achieved widespread success as an agricultural center and commercial hub. In 1938, Mayor Wm Higginson merged the two towns of Starkville into one municipality under his leadership. Today, Starkville is home to more than 6,000 residents and is considered one of Mississippi's most vibrant cities
Starkville was founded in 1819 by John Stark and his family. The town served as a slave market for the area until it was abolished in 1865. In 1881, Starkville became the seat of Jackson County. It was renamed Starkville in 1907 after General Edward M. "Black Jack" Stark, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as U.S. Minister to Spain.
