Southaven is a small town in central Mississippi. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Macomb County. The first white settlers in what is now Southaven were Methodists from Alabama. The community was founded on the banks of the Atchafalaya River by Reverend H.G. Southaven has several churches including First Baptist Church which services both within the town limits as well as outside them around Mobile Bayou where services are offered twice weekly from 7:00am to 11:30am CST from Sunday morning until Friday evening; Stonington Methodist Episcopal Zion Church which is also located within city limits but offers services outside during daylight hours; Christ Central United Methodist Church which meets inside or outside the confines of City Hall; Seventh-day AdventistChurch although they have no service currently scheduled for this time period; Presbyterian church whose building formerly housed Joplin’s Masonic Temple before that structure burned down in 2000; Good Shepherd Catholic Parish nestled among several homes backs up against Interstate 10 Exit 259A off US 49 near Natchitoches High School with chargeable parking available adjacent to serve HH members only during school days (Monday through Thursday); Evangelical Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod while they do offer religious services such as baptisms/conversions on Saturday mornings throughout much of southern Mississippians area there are no regular services offered here (eastern edge) nearest highway exit towards Memphis

Southaven is the county seat of Jackson County and home to the University of Mississippi. The city of Oxford was incorporated in 1907 as a result of a referendum by the citizens of Southaven. The community began as an agricultural village on the banks of the Pearl River, about three miles east of present-day Southaven. A post office was established there on July 1, 1856, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1907, settlers from Oxford moved into what had been developed as part of their farming area and petitioned for incorporation as a city. The town site was surveyed and platted on December 17, 1907; and on January 6, 1908 – just one day before Mississippi statehood – City Hall opened its doors for business underwritten by J. Prentice Mellon & Sons (now known as JPMorgan Chase). During World War I (1914-1918), South Haven served as an important military base where troops were quartered during various campaigns around the Gulf Coast region; also during that time many local businesses donated goods or services to support war efforts including munitions manufacturing plants within town limits. Afterward much economic development took place with retail stores opening up along Main Street which became known locally simply as "the shopping mall." In recent years some damage has been done to both buildings inside and outside City Hall due to vandalism over time but overall it still remains an interesting example of early 20th century downtown Jackson County USA
