Southaven, Mississippi is a town in Hinds County, Mississippi. The population was 2,803 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1892 by Scots-Irish immigrants and named after Southaven, Tennessee. The community grew rapidly due to its location on the Missouri–Kansas border and its position as a crossroads for travelers between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Dallas/Ft Worth, Texas. In 1902, the United States acquired title to all ofpresent-day Hinds County from Mexico and renamed it United States Indian Territory; Southaven remained unincorporated until 1910. In 1925, Southaven established itself as an independent municipality with a mayor and a school board; within five years it had become one of the most prosperous towns in Mississippi. In 1951, however, during the McCarthy era of American politics, Southaven became embroiled in controversy when its white mayor refused to recognize African Americans as citizens; this led to a boycott of its municipal services by black residents that lasted for several months. After desegregating public education in 1965 (a major goal of then-Governor Ross Perot), Southaven experienced rapid growth as an suburb of Jackson; today it is home to some 635 people who are mainly black or Hispanic descent. Despite these challenges (e.g., high poverty rates among minority groups), Southaven has managed to maintain its characteristic mix of smalltown life with big city amenities: Its library has been moved from downtown to quasi-independent headquarters on Main Street since 2000; its park has been rebuilt twice since 1996 after being destroyed by Hurricane Katrina; and its police department provides security for local businesses while also providing educational opportunities for youth through programs like "Hands On Justice."

These devices consisted of a single crude cotton torch attached to a pole and used as a secondary beacon for guiding shipmates during night navigation. While these basic designs were successful, they eventually proved too heavy for most collectors or recreational shooters to carry around comfortably. By 1829, however, Gun Light Company had developed a new design which became known as the “Bulldog” gunlight. This device featured an adjustable focus lens which allowed it to be aimed at any target regardless of its distance from the user. It also featured an easy-to-use battery operated switch which made it possible for anyone with basicmanship skills to operate this instrument safely and effectively. With this new design, GUN LIGHTS quickly became one of the most popular firearm sights available on both civilian and military fields throughout Europe and North America

Southaven, Mississippi is a city in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The population was 21,059 at the 2010 census. The city is located in East Jackson County and is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. It was founded as a small village named Southaven on May 6, 1881 by Jens Jensen and his wife, Sophie Hesseltine Jensen. On December 7, 1881, Southaven became a town when it voted to become one with voting rights under the new Meridian Municipal Act of 1887. The first store in Southaven was built on what is now Second Street in 1895 by Averill Pillsbury and Cornelius Fenton Crouch Sr.. In 1907, Carlisle Waddell opened up what is now Walmart south of town on US-71/US-82. In 1951, voters passed an ordinance imposing term limits on Jackson County Commissioners which would limit their service to seven years instead of the current five years under state law at that time. The measure failed to make it through the county commission election that year but did pass through legislature when it was amended to add three more years to Commissioner terms in 1955 The City Council voted 5-2 on March 16th, 2006 to annex unincorporated areas east of I-10 within Jackson Township into Southaven for a total population of 26,, also expanding its borders westward from I-10 including parts of Marshalltown and Tupelo On November 2nd 2006 residents of unincorporated areas east of I-10 enjoined their local government from annexing these areas into Southaven because they asserted fears about possible housing plans that would result from this annexation
On November 1, 1882, the first Post Office in Southaven was established. The office was located on State Street. On May 11, 1916, the government of Mississippi opened a new Post Office at City Hall in downtown Southaven.
