Afterward, Southaven began to recover with development projects such as an update of its streets and new library openings along with numerous job opportunities for local residents. As of 2018, there are several high-rise apartment buildings built in or near Southaven which have generated controversy because they are viewable only from certain parts of town which do not include homes that were built before 1976 when state law allowed these types of structures without consent from home owners
