Ridgeland, Mississippi is the home of the world’s largest rifle range. The ridgeland rifle range opened in 1903 and has been continuously operating ever since. It is a living history museum and National Historic Site that preserves the history of firearms in Mississippi. The Ridgeland Rifle Range was established as part of a land grant to Colonel James Hogg from General Nathaniel Banks. The Colonel became interested in hunting game on his plantation and decided to build a shooting gallery on his plantation. He also purchased some rifles from Europe and set up shop at the Ridgeland Rifle Range to sell these guns to local residents. In 1916, Captain John Matson organized the first rifle club in Mississippi with Mr. Aiken as president and Captain Matson as secretary treasurer. At this time, there were only 10 members total at the Ridgeland Rifle Range. In 1922, Drury's Shoe Store on State Street was burned down by an unknown person or group intending to destruction all evidence of pistol shooting activity at the rifle range. No injuries resulted from this event but it did serve as a reminder that pistols were not allowed at the rifle range! School children would often explore this store during their lunchtime break because it was located right next door to the rifle range! In 1935, Colonel Bledsoe donated 2 acres of land adjacent to his plantation for use as a rifle range and muzzleloader center by NRA member Major Lloyd Jett Brewer Jr.. This new property served as headquarters for NRA Gun Clubs across America until 1977 when NRA merged with other organizations forming what is now known as “The National Shooting Sports Foundation” (NSSF). Today, the Ridgeland Rifle Range remains an important part of Firearms History in Mississippi and hosts thousands of visitors each year who come witness Operation Overthrow (the attempt by white supremacists to drive black people out of Jackson), Civil Rights marches through town including Bull Connor’s march on Meridian Avenue in 1960; various target shootings including matches between 9mm Luger pistol rounds vs 12 gauge shotgun rounds; duck hunting tournaments; fishing tournaments; several concerts annually throughout summer months such as R&B artist Big Boi performing live at capacity DeltaPlex Stadium last summer while Little Richard headlined one night earlier; annual pie-eating contests held over Memorial Day weekend complete with Pie Eating Contest Trophy & All Star Awards! There are even Annual Gun Shows every Saturday & Sunday inside DeltaPlex Stadium which attract hundreds of exhibitors/inheritants from all over America!

In 1907, the Mississippi Legislature enacted a law providing for registration of handguns and for annual licensing of handgun owners. The Registration Law was repealed in 1912. In 1920, the state of Mississippi passed another gun regulation statute which required all handgun owners to obtain permits from local police before carrying any firearms anywhere within the state. The permit requirement was repealed in 1924. In 1934, the state of Mississippi passed a new gun regulation statute which made it an offense to possess or sell any firearm without a license from local police. The offense was punishable by up to five years imprisonment and/or a $500 fine. This law was repealed on July 1, 1934. In 1937, the state of Mississippi passed another gun regulation statute which provided for universal background checks on all handguns buyers before they could purchase them from anyone else within the state. This law also required that all handgun purchasers be fingerprinted and have their photograph taken prior to purchases. The background check requirement was repealed on March 3, 1938.
Ridgeland, Mississippi is a small town in the southeastern United States. The population was 3,693 at the 2000 census. It is located in Harrison County. The first European to visit Ridgeland was a white man named David Davenport in 1819. He named it after Robert Ridgeway, an Englishman who had journeyed through the area on his way to Louisiana. The town began to grow rapidly due to its strategic location and its proximity to cotton plantations. By 1890, Ridgeland had become one of the most important settlements in Harrison County. The town experienced significant economic decline during the late 20th century and early 21st century due to factors such as increased competition from nearby Jackson and Memphis, Tennessee; a lack of jobs opportunities for local residents; and low tax rates which made it difficult for businesses to stay open. In 2003, Ridgeland voters passed a referendum approval of a plan to make it easier for businesses to stay open by increasing their allowed hours of operation In 2006, Ridgeland became home to the first-ever African American college or university in Mississippi when Delta State University opened its doors there. The school has since grown into one of the largest educational institutions in Mississippi with over 50 programs offered across five campuses in Harrison County As part of efforts towards revitalization throughout Harrison County, Ridgeland played host to several events during 2016 including Caribbean Carnival and Fourth of July fireworks display
