The town of Ridgeland, Mississippi was founded in 1892 by J.D. Ridgeland and his brother-in-law, George W. Hogue. The two men were looking for a location to establish a cottonseed oil refinery and decided on Ridgeland because of its strategic location between the Yazoo River and the Gulf of Mexico. In 1898, the town had only three buildings and consisted of just over 100 people. In 1907, the first black person to be elected as mayor of Ridgeland was James Ladd. By 1920, there were over 1,000 people living in Ridgeland and it had an average population size of 2,500 people. During World War II, Ridgeland became one of the largest military sites in Mississippi because it was home to both USAAF Station Hindman Airfield and US Navy Station Mobile Bay. The airfield played an important role in WWII by providing storage space for bombers and fighter planes as well as providing access to water supplies for troops fighting on land or at sea.
Ridgeland is a town in Choctaw County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 census. Ridgeland was founded in 1836 by German immigrants. It is the county seat of Choctaw County. The town was named for General John C. Fremont, who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as a U.S. army general during Reconstruction in Mississippi after the end of that conflict. After his death in 1868, Ridgeland's first mayor was Edmund Ruffin Porter Jr., son of Senator Edmund Ruffin Porter Sr.. In 1925, George WASHINGTON became the first African American to be elected Mayor of Ridgeland when he ran against incumbent J H JACKSON and won with over 60% of the vote; Washington had been mayor since 1901 (the last time black men had held office in Choctaw County). In 1969 Republican Representative Leroy Jenkins defeated Democrat Willie Moss to become the first black congressman from Mississippi without having run for office before then. In 1971 Republican Governor Ross Barnett appointed Claiborne Pell as America's first Black Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Louisiana; Pell would later serve as president Obama's nominee for that position (he would not be confirmed). The north side of town is home to The First African Baptist Church which opened its doors on December 12th 1902 and has served as an important religious outpost for blacks throughoutChoctaw County until recent times when most services have been conducted through more mainstream churches due to lack thereof space or interest within minority communities across much of rural Mississippi On October 25th 2007 one night only a total fire destroyed most all buildings including residences leaving no survivors

The town grew rapidly during the early years of its development; by 1907, Ridgeland had a population of 15 people and two churches. During World War II, Ridgeland became one of several towns in Jackson County to participate in the Manhattan Project; as a result, its economy soared as manufacturing jobs increased associated with wartime production. In recent decades, however, Ridgeland's fortunes have begun to decline; its population has decreased by over 50% since 2000 and its poverty rate has risen significantly. In addition to these negative trends, there are also concerns about gentrification and pollution that have impacted nearby neighborhoods such as White Castle Amusement Park and East Memphis (the latter which is home to many Confederate-era historical sites).
Ridgeland, Mississippi is a city in the U.S. state of Mississippi and the county seat of Marshall County. The population was 102,838 at the 2010 census. Ridgeland is located on the banks of the Yazoo River near Tupelo, Mississippi; it is also nearby Jackson and Vicksburg. The date Ridgeland was founded is unknown but it likely dates back to 1819 when French traders postulated there as part of their plans to establishe themselves in what is now southeastern Mississippi. The first permanent settler in what would become Ridgeland was James Robertson who arrived in 1824 from Kentucky as a member of an group led by Andrew Jackson. Many early settlers came through Indian Territory which bordered present-day Mississippi and Alabama before being driven out by Native American warriors or merchants seeking rare minerals or land not worth taking over by white man. In 1830, Robertson's brother-in-law David Jourdan settled here with his family known as "the Dandies" after purchasing two hundred acres (0,8 km²) upstream from where Ridgeland stands today from John Murray for $100 cash plus 10% interest each year until he sold out in 1837 to John Covington for $2,000/. In 1840, Alexander Hamblin donated five million dollars ($5 million USD) towards construction of a new town hall site just east of downtown Ridgeland on what would later become Hamblin Boulevard - one of many donations made by businessmen and landowners during the antebellum period to help support growing towns such as Meridian and Vicksburg across central Mississippi. The building was completed in 1845 and served as headquarters for several years for both Marshall County and Mississippian newspapers before being moved to Tupelo in 1907 where it still resides today as part of Historic district #9 within that same municipality boundaries). During Reconstruction following the Civil War, much activity took place here including manufacturing (chiefly cotton), banking, shipping, agriculture (livestock raising), education (including a high school which opened its doors in 1865), and labor camps used by Union troops during Reconstruction efforts at homecompromise rather than fight against Confederate forces on opposite sides like most other parts of central Mississippi. This period also saw significant growth within RidgELDOWN because many residents had been forced westward along I-10 along with millions more Americans since President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation six months prior via Operation Overland which began on April 12th 1863 with General Robert E Lee's entry into Mobile Bay followed days later by General Ulysses S Grant's crossing over our southern border into Arkansas proper - thus ending all physical segregation between black men & women living north & southof Interstate 20 throughout most of this region forever... However some aspects still remain racially charged (& unequal) to this day (& continue apathy among some citizens!) due to recent opcodes implemented by MSDOT... For example: useof Confederate battle flags/symbols(even outside historical buildings/grounds)... etc."
