Today, Petal is home to a grocery store, post office, library/gallery/, high school (Granger-Haley), two churches (First Baptist and Methodist), two restaurants (Cafeteria No 5 & 7), one convenience store (Taco Stop), two banks ( Fifth Third Bank and Citizens National Bank), three schools (Roberson Elementary Schoolgrades PK-4; Catlin Middle Schoolgrades 5-8; Rankin High Schoolgrades 9-12)and one hospital (Marshall County Veterans Affairs Medical Center).

A seriesof improvements followed which allowed greater range and power for projectile launching from bows while still allowing considerable accuracy - these included crossbow bolts shot through iron sights (15th century), cannonballs shot via catapults (16th century), human cannonballs shootable outfitted with carriages (17th century) before finally breech loading pistols became available in 1795
On May 20, 1865, Confederate General James Longstreet surrendered at Appomattox Court House after a three-day battle. 1,500 men were killed and 5,000 captured. The surrender was a turning point in the war.
Petal, Mississippi is a town located in Jackson County, Mississippi. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. The first town in Jackson County was Petal. It was established by two men, Isaac and Ebenezer Petal, in 1828. In 1830, John Rankin founded the town of Rankinville on the banks of the Yazoo River. Both towns were within what is nowJackson County. In 1836, Petal and Rankinville amalgamated to form Petal Township. The township became an incorporated municipality in 1854. On December 10, 1862, Confederate General Robert Ewell Battle ordered his army to march into downtown Mobile Bayou to cross over and attack Union forces there under General Ulysses S. Grant. A group of Union soldiers detachment went out for water but were met by about 12 Confederate Soldiers who fired upon them before retreating back into their homes without finding any water supplies or food for their horses or cattle which had been brought with them from Mobile Bayou
Petal, Mississippi was founded in 1821 by John Atwater and his wife Rebecca. The first post office in Petal was established in 1824. The community of Petal was named after the petals of a nearby wildflowers. In 1853, Anna Bledsoe moved to Petal from Macon and became the first female mayor of Petal. In 1896, Petal had a railroad station built.
