The following day mobs descended on both towns with violence ensuing; however, only Brown's followers were killed while many others managed to escape into neighboring states such as Alabama and Tennessee before being apprehended by Union troops weeks later when they raided plantations near Memphis TN controlled by Confederate forces

In 1925, WPA workers arrived in Pascagoula to help rebuild following Hurricane Florence which destroyed much of downtown area.. The town renovated its infrastructure including new library and public works buildings as well as repairing or replacing old ones. In 1938, a new high school was built on what is now Main Street and became home to both local high school football teams (the Bombers and Tigers) as well as two academies: one for boys and one for girls (both were eventually closed). The town also hosted three annual festivals: Bluegrass Festival on October 6th; Cajun Fest on November 8th; Folklore Festival on December 6th].
