Gun chokes (also known as stocking choke, keylock choke, and pistol grip choke) are a family of choking devices that have been used to restrict the flow of air from a person's lungs. The community of Pascagoula was founded by French Canadians in 1830. They named their village after Jean-Baptiste Cadillac, a general in Napoleon's army who had fought in North America during the War of 1812. Cadillac named his town after himself because he had become wealthy from trading goods with Native Americans in what is now southeastern Michigan. In 1835, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Mobile to Pascagoula to take advantage of its strategic location on both sides of the river for military operations against Indian tribes living east of Alabama and west of Mississippi. In 1860, Confederate General Robert Elam established a supply depot at Pascagoula which served as an important Rebel base throughout the American Civil War. The Battle of Corinth took place nearby on April 6, 1862 just upstream from where Pascagoula stands today and resulted in United States casualties numbering more than 400 dead when Union forces assaulted Colonel James Fisk's retreat column near present day Princeton University campus; however this event remains one of history's most dramatized episodes in American maritime history In 1970, Pan American World Airways (PAA) began serving as primary international gateway to Gulfport/Biloxi with daily service to Latin America and Caribbean destinations beginning November 1st 1970 via Miami International Airport (MIA). On October 15th 1980 Delta Air Lines became operational providing direct service between Atlanta (Hartsfield-Jackson) International Airport (ATL), Panama City (PDX), Bogota Colombia(BCN), Kingston Jamaica(JFK), Sao Paulo Brazil(SPZ) and Puerto Rico(PRT). By September 1997 Delta had discontinued all flights to or from PRT except for one daily nonstop flight operated out of MIA until May 2001 when Republic Airlines assumed that serviced role after Pan Am folded within Pan Am en route from JFK – Panama City – Cancun Mexico City San Juan Puerto Rico

In 1831, Pascagoula became a Statutory Town and remained that way until it became an unincorporated community in 1961. The first post office in Pascagoula was established on October 6, 1829.
