Over time, other companies joined Higgins Manufacturing Company including Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester) which licensed use of its breechloading rifle design for the production ofBB guns; Browning Firearms Corporation (Browning) which produced pistols and revolvers using a magazine-fed centerfire cartridge system; Remington Arms Corporation (Remington) which developed an air- cooled recoil spring-operated BBgun named after its founder Jesse James; Savage Arms Corporation (Savage) which produced a single shot revolver featuring a gasRANT breechloader; and finally Colt Firearms Corporation (Colt) which manufactured handguns with revolving cylinders utilizing metal disks as ammunition shells).
Pascagoula, Mississippi is a city in Gulf County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 10,814 at the 2010 census. Pascagoula is the county seat of Gulf County. It was founded in 1836 by Federalist refugees from Mobile, Alabama. The town became a major cotton center during the 1850s and 1860s as plantations were abandoned and new ones were built. During the American Civil War, Pascagoula was one of several Confederate military outposts along the Mississippi River. In 1865 it Union General Ulysses S. Grant destroyed most of the town's infrastructure following his successful march against Confederate General Robert E. Lee in what is known as "The Battle of Pascagoula". Pascagoula has experienced various waves of growth over its history including a period of decline during World War II; an influx of African Americans during the 1960s and 1970s; and a resurgence in recent years characterized by increased development, job opportunities for local residents, and tourism.[1][2] As of 2018,[3] the city had an estimated population of 11,700[4] making it one of Mississippi's fastest-growing municipalities.[5][6][7]

Pascagoula's rich history includes significant moments in its development such as: the first printing press in Mississippi (1828), cotton gin production (1834), Reconstruction-era white supremacy (1870–1871), and finally, post-apocalyptic conditions following Hurricane Katrina (2005). The town was platted in 1817 by John Smith and his family during the era of Indian Removal under President James K. Polk. When white settlers began to arrive in what is now Forrest County, they started trading goods with the local Native Americans for food and clothing. By 1830, Pascagoula had become known as "The Fairest City on The Mississippi" because of its thriving trade economy which allowed it to escape being subjected to slave labor during American Indian removal campaigns across Southeast Louisiana at that time. The city's success led to other settlements being established throughout what is now Forrest County; these include Clarksdale (founded 1836) and Tupelo ( founded 1842). In 1840, Pascagoula became part of Jackson County when it was split off from Hardin County due topopulation growth within Jackson County alone rather than through annexation by other counties like Mobile or Baton Rouge which were happening at that time. With cotton prices reaching their peak around 1800 due to India's export demand for slave labor for its plantations there wasn't enough available land outside of Africa or America for farmers to grow crops so cotton became an important crop in both countries along with cattle/livestock breeding becoming increasingly important after 1800 due to increased transport costs between those regions overland via canals such as the Great Lakes system into China and then Europe where markets were developing specifically for livestock products including hides and woolen items such as clothes etc.. After American independence from Great Britain occurred in 1776,[1] most African slaves who had been transported free northward ended up being brought back south into slavery thanks largely to British efforts aimed at protecting their interests while also gaining territory west of Mexico which included parts of modern day Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky etc.. By 1850 however many African Americans who remained living Free north had assimilated into new cultures within South Carolina[2][3][4] so much so that North Carolina state legislators decided it would be more advantageous economically for them all if they moved south towards Georgia where there were still open land grants left behind from before English colonization.[5][6] This decision led directly to large numbers of freed black men moving downriver towards Charleston – mostly through Meridian – starting around 1800 when transportation costs became too expensive inland[7]. The Pascagoula, Mississippi community is located in the U.S. state of Mississippi and includes the town of Pascagoula and the villages of Clarksdale, Bentonville, Meridian, Tupelo, and Vicksburg. The town was founded in 1819 by a group of Frenchmen looking for new land to settle after their colony in Louisiana was destroyed by war with England. The original name for the community was "Bentonville." The town became known as "Pascagoula" after the local river that ran through it. In 1868, General Andrew Jackson appointed Colonel John Pope as head of military police in Mississippi andPope renamed the town "Pascagoula" after his home state of Virginia. After Jackson's death in 1875, General James Ewing took over command of Confederate forces in Mississippi and ordered Pope to move all civilians out of Pascagoula so that they would not support the Union cause. Pope refused to leave without his family and they wereburned at sea while he still remained living in Pascagoula. In 1881, Congress passed a resolution calling for Pope's execution because he had been highhanded during his time as head of military police in Mississippi. However, President Abraham Lincoln intervened on behalf of Pope and he was pardoned by Lincoln before being executed at Huntsville Federal prison on May 3,1881
