Oxford, Mississippi is a small town located in the eastern part of Jackson County, Mississippi. It is bordered by Hillsboro to the south and east, Gadsden to the north, and Marshall to the west. In 1819 an ox Ford was built here and used for transportation between Athens and Meridian. A post office called Oxford had been established in 1825, but it closed in 1892. In 1907 John Wesley Powell visited this area while exploring Yellowstone National Park and named one of his stations " Oxford". He also discovered these rocks that are now at Crossroads National Battlefield Park were quarried here for building back then! The townspeople started construction on a new courthouse in 1909 which they finished just two years later. But by 1920 the community had all but disappeared due to World War I-era migration away from war-torn Europe. But during World War II things began changing again as University students poured into Oxford from all over America looking for opportunities for study after completing their undergraduate degrees elsewhere. And so by 1945 Oxford had begun growing once more with businesses (such as local grocery stores) opening up around town to serve those who lived hereabouts before anything else could be done about it! There has been much progress made since 1945 including expansion of both commercial and residential areas; development of new parks; and dwindling number of residents moving away each year until only a few hundred remain today within what once seemed like an entire city! Now comes a time where more people are beginning to move intoOxford permanently than ever before- perhaps due inpart to economic stability brought about by recent increases in jobs outside the city limits? Or maybe something even better is happening: attitudes towards our tiny little town have begun slowly but surely evolving over time into something less negative?
