Olive Branch, Mississippi is a city in Butler County, Mississippi. The population was 14,572 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. Olive Branch was founded in 1812 and named for Olivetus Blacksmith, an early settler. The city is located on the Cahokia Mounds National Monument and was once home to one of America's largest cotton plantations. Today, much of the downtown area is comprised of commercial buildings and office complexes as well as Gibson-Leiberman High School and Olive Branch Junior/Senior High Schools. The main canal that runs through town was built by Andrew Jackson in 1798 to connect New Orleans with Mississippi River boats traveling downstream from Spanish Fort on the Gulf Coast. In 1836, a branch line was constructed east of town linking it with Meridian (Mississippi) via Prairie du Chien (Wisconsin). Today, only a small portion of this route remains active; parts of it have been closed altogether due to deterioration or lack of funding. Today's downtown area began to feel like its own community when residents banded together in 1964 to form the first municipally owned police department in America – now known as "Olive Branch Police Department". The city also formed its first public works committee in 1965 which oversaw construction projects such as new roads and bridges, water systems installation and improvement, wastewater treatment plant expansion and renovation - all undertaken without any government money being available!

Olive Branch is a small town in Rankin County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 539 at the 2010 census. Olive Branch is part of the Jackson, MS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was originally called "Boggs Station" and developed around a sawmill on Big Creek. In 1892, William Hogue bought the mill and renamed it "Olive Branch". He also built a store and post office there. In 1904, he sold the mill to J.M. Whitehurst and donated the land for a public school district. The first high school opened in 1916; it was closed in 1966 but reopened as Olive Branch High School in 1971. In 1942, General Motors Corporation established a plant in Olive Branch to produce Buick radios and other automobiles under its Saturn brand name during World War II production shortages caused by American involvement in the war effort. The plant closed in 1984 but has been resurrected as an agricultural research center known as GM Research Park since 2006. Olive Branch is located at (31 0 24 21). According to the USGS website, it has an elevation of 653 feet (207 m).
