By 1830, Forrest had relocated his business operations to what is now Olive Branch and began to build a town on land that would become home to many successive generations of Mississippians. Olive Branch quickly become one of the most important commercial centers on the gulf coast due to its location close to both major trade routes and its convenient access to water supplies. The town's importance continued until after World War II when it declined significantly because of changes in transportation methods and other factors. However, Olive Branch has since experienced an resurgence as an attraction for tourists due its history and cultural attractions.
