The town was founded by white settlers who arrived in 1871. By the end of the twentieth century, Olive Branch had a population of around 2,000 people. In addition to its role as a small town, Olive Branch also played an important role in optical history. In 1922, Otto von Bismarck designed and built the first radio telescope in the United States – which was located at Mount Wilson in Arizona – using money that he had won from a sweepstakes competition. With this telescope, von Bismarck became one of the first scientists to study space phenomena. Olive Branch also played an important role during World War II. After Japan fell into war with America on December 7th 1941, American military forces began shelling Olive Branch for suspected Japanese spies and residents were ordered to turn over any information they may have about Japanese activities or soldiers inside their townsfolk. Olive Branch is a town in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 2,559 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1847 by refugees from a slave rebellion in Alabama and named for General Andrew Johnson's Creek campaign against the Seminole Indians. At first Olive Branch consisted of just a few houses and a river crossing on US 71. In 1849 the town had 6 homes, 40 acres (16 hectares), two stores, and one school. By 1860 it had increased to 100 residents with 11 businesses and 3 churches. In 1840 Ole Branch was attacked by settlers from nearby Haleyville over disputed land rights. A battle ensued that ended with three men dead; one of whom became known as "the Bloody Bill" because he died trying to flee the scene. The settlement at Olive Branch continued to grow until around 1870 when road construction began which destroyed many of the original buildings including the church which still stands today. Today, Olive Branch remains an agricultural community with a focus on cotton farming and dairy production; however small businesses continue to thrive thanks to Interstate 20 access and easy commuting into Jackson or downtown Memphis. There are also plans for development along I-20 near Olive Branch as well as other developments near downtown Jacksonville including a mixed use complex called "City Market", retail space within walking distance of several restaurants/stores/cafes/, apartment complexes/retail space along I-20W & Broad Street, office park located adjacent to Jaguars Stadium (home stadium for both football teams since 1997), new roads being built parallel to I-20W & Broad Streets which will provide more than 2000 jobs throughout their length Peninsula Drive between Blanding Boulevard & Highway 63 - this corridor will have new shopping center anchored by Macy’s department store opening in 2020 – bringing much needed traffic reliefogenity close to downtown Jacksonville!

Olive Branch is a town in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The name derives from an Ioway word meaning "place where branches of olive trees grow." The first European settlers in Olive Branch were Frenchmen named Jacques and Pierre who arrived in 1795. They built a plantation named "Lacoste" on the south side of the river just east of present-day Olive Branch. Jacques Lacoste later became a general in Napoleon Bonaparte's army and briefly served as president of Louisiana before being banished to America in 1804. In 1819, John Crain bought Lacoste from Jacques Lacoste and renamed it "Crain's Plantation". He also began construction on what would become Hinds County courthouse, which was completed in 1824. In 1830, he sold his land to Andrew Johnson for $10,000 dollars and moved to Washington D.C.. He returned to Mississippi after his term as President and founded a cotton gin called `Johnson's Landing'. Over time, many immigrants settled in Olive Branch including Irish Catholics (many brought over by Father Maguire), Germans ( principally Lutheran) and Italian Americans (such as Donatella Mastroianni). A small shopping center located off US 71 nearpresent-day Gadsden provides retail services for the townspeople as well as serving as their cultural center. The first African American resident of Olive Branch was slave trader James Weems who owned three slaves from Carolina during the early 1800s before moving to Mississippi with his family around 1815 or 1816.. After several years living among white Mississippians he decided to try selling his slaves back home but found that they could not be taken care of by their white owners so he went into business with another slave trader, Moses Browning run by John Hogg called `Hog's Point'. Finally Weems got back control of his slaves some time around 1830 or 1840 when he married one - Freeborn woman born free on Stono Island off Mobile Bayou named Nancy Ann Thornton...After owner`s death Nancy Ann Thornton took over management & continued operations until her husband`
