In 1814, Natchez became a part of Jackson County and was renamed to its current name, Natchez, on October 12 of that year.

By 1851, Natchitoches had become an important commercial center with a large cotton gin and several stores. During Reconstruction in America following World War II, Natchez became one of the most active black cities in America, hosting many black political leaders and organizations such asSoul Searching Committee #1 (founded 1941), National Association for Negro Business Men (NAB), American Hebrew Congregationalist Association (AHA), African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (AMEZC) and NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF).

Natchez, Mississippi is a town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 9,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The name "Natchez" as it appears on maps from 1819 to 1861 means "place where the Natchez people lived." The first Europeans to visit this community were French and Indian traders who landed here in 1798. In 1819, United States General Andrew Jackson visited Natchez while he was campaigns against Seminole Indians and ordered all Native Americans living east of the Mississippi River to leave their lands or be killed. This order caused religious and racial tension which would continue until white supremacists burned down African American churches in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1865. In 1841, a group of Masons founded a Masonic Lodge at what is now called downtown Natchez after some local men had helped found an Odd Fellows lodge there two years earlier. On July 4th of that year they named their new Lodge "The Knights of Columbus." A post office opened in Natchez on December 5th, 1840 with James Higginson as its first mail carrier; it closed on October 15th, 1951. In 1851-1852 separate shops were built for both Read & Wessels Hardware and Jardine Bros., groceries stores along Commerce Street (later known as Main Street). These stores shared one large back room used by all three businesses until each store built its own garage/shopping mall across the street in 1952-1960 respectively! During Reconstruction following World War II many African Americans migrated to Jacksonville County specifically because they could not find work anywhere else within Jackson County except near plantations owned by white people. Many black workers worked for companies such as US Steel and Gulf Oil Company before being fired or leaving when discrimination became institutionalized during the postwar period through programs like Emancipation Proclamation/Brown v Board of Education etc.. However most black employees working for these companies received little or no compensation from their employers unlike white employees who received government benefits like Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Medicare Part D coverage which persisted into the 21st century despite occasional protests by labor unions - an issue that will be addressed further below! On October 15th 1951 – just over sixty years after opening her first post office – Natchez’s last mail carrier died suddenly at age seventy-six after serving faithfully for more than four decades! On November 3rd 1951– only nine days after her death– anotherJacksonian passed away: Mrs. Ada Mae Shriver MBE (born Ada Mae Coleman), widow of Senator Scott Brownlee who had previously been Mayor of Boston MA from 1959-1966! Msgr Edward “Pete” Crowley also passed away unexpectedly less than two weeks later on November 10th 1951 at age seventy-one during what was expected to be a short life expectancy due to multiple sclerosis! These deaths left behind a town full of memories but unfortunately few tangible reminders….until now!
