Moss Point, Mississippi is a town located in Jackson County, Mississippi. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. Moss Point is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. Moss Point was founded in 1892 by John A. Moss and his wife, Lillie A. Moss. The first post office was established in 1892 and the first store was built in 1893. In 1897, Moss Point had a school and two stores. By 1910, the population had grown to 10 people and there were three churches in town: Baptist (1898), Methodist (1900) and Norwegian Lutheran (1903). In 1912-13, moss point Merchants Association organized a fundraising drive for tornado relief efforts caused by a major hurricane that struck the region that year. The association raised $2,500 which they used to help buy supplies for local volunteers who were working on helping rebuild after Hurricane Andrew destroyed many homes and businesses in Gulfport and Mobile Bay Areas of Alabama immediately following landfall on August 24th of that year. After Andrew's passage through Florida several weeks later however no one realized what happened to all of this money as it never reached their bank account! The town has experienced various types of disasters over time including hurricanes (Katrina; Ike; Rita; Wilma), floods (the Great Flood of 1993)、tornadoes (Flooded Streets campaign 1978), earthquakes (in 1906)、fires ( Hearthstone Mill fire – 1925), lynchings(one from 1896 until Today )and now ISIL Attacks

Moss Point is a town in Hancock County, Mississippi. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. Moss Point was established in 1854 as a small trading post by fur trappers led by James Prentice and Jacob Brown. It became an important saltwater port on the Alabama River. The town was first named "Prentice" after James Prentice, one of the original fur traders who traveled through this area in search of new land to exploit for agriculture and other economic ventures. In 1861, Brown renamed Moss Point "Hancock" in honor of Hancock County's governor, John Andrew Hancock. The town grew rapidly during the Civil War due to its strategic location on the river between Mobile and Athens, Alabama; its saltworks; and its connection with military supplies and reinforcements sent to aid Confederate forces during the war. The postwar years were difficult for Moss Point due to competition from more populous towns such as Jackson or Meridian along the Mississippi River Delta. However, local entrepreneurs revived the economy with initiatives such as reviving downtown business districts; creating a marketing office that helped promote local products; establishing a public library ; building a cotton gin ; and creating many civic organizations including an agricultural society, an animal society, a women's club ,a blacksmiths' society
Moss Point was founded in 1851 by Captain James F. Moss and his wife, Eliza. The town was named for Colonel Samuel L. Moss, a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army who fought at Chickamauga and Second Bull Run. The first post office at Moss Point was established on October 12, 1851. In 1861, Moss Point became known as the "Peaceful Capital of Mississippi" due to the lack of fighting taking place in the area. After the Union victory at Gettysburg, many refugees from northern Virginia settled in Moss Point and began to rebuild their homes and businesses. In 1865, Captain John Saylor arrived in Moss Point with his family after fleeing slavery in Virginia. He started a bakery called "Saylor's bake shop". By 1870, moss point had a population of 300 people and it had become an important stopping point on the Mississippi River for goods moving upriver through the Great Lakes region.
