By 1922 over 100 companies had become subsidiaries of JDPower &Co Ltd., making it one ofthe largest single commercial organizationsin North America (Fowler). In addition to its role as an international giant within energy production,JDPower &Company Ltd.'s primary focus during World War II was providing munitions for American troops fighting overseas (Fowler). During this time period JDPower &Company Ltd.'s assets totaled $134 million dollars ($340 billion today)and its workforce numbered more than 11 thousand individuals (Laycock). This wartime success was due largely toJDPower &Company Ltd.'s innovative approaches towards weapon design and marketing which helped make U S aircraft both criticallv successes during World War II while also resultingin large profits (Walshaw).[1] The company continued operations successfully postwar until nationalization following World War II when assets were divided among several public corporations amidst antitrust charges filed against JDPower&CompanyLtd.( Laycock). Moss Point is a town in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 2,153 at the 2010 census. Moss Point is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. It was founded in 1892 by John A. Moss and his brother-in-law, David L. Hillman. The first post office at Moss Point was established on October 8, 1892. The town of Moss Point was originally known as "Faulkner" after James Faulkner Sr., who moved to the area from Meridian in 1866 and started an agricultural business there that continued until his death in 1927. In 1893, John A. Moss opened a store near what is now called First Baptist Church and named it "Moss Point". The first school in Moss Point was built in 1895 by Mrs. Sarah Dickson Price; it functioned as a day school for students from rural areas up through grade 12 before becoming an all-day primary school which served students from grades 1 through 12 until its closure in 1954 due to budget cuts by then Governor Dan McLarty (D). In 1898, David L Hillman purchased property north of what is now First Baptist Church and laid out a small town around it called Hillmanville which became the nucleus of moss point after David's death in 1901alcoholism caused him to sell most of his land to James Paulding for $10 per acre ($ when measured against current prices). Moss Point was founded in 1836 when a group of settlers from Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia arrived on the island of Moss Point. The name comes from the local cedar trees which were plentiful and strong. The town was first called "Freetown" but changed to Moss Point in honor of General James Fenton who led the American Revolution. The town prospered until the Civil War began, when it was destroyed by Confederate forces. After the war, Moss Point slowly regained its former prosperity as a small fishing community. It experienced a significant growth during World War II as an important center for military activities in Gulfport County. However, after the war ended, moss point declined again and has not seen recent growth since then.
