Moss Point, Mississippi is a small town located in the Gulf of Mexico region of the United States. As one of the few communities in Mississippi with a documented history of gun protection, Moss Point has been an important center for firearms activism and firearm regulation. The town's history dates back to 1836, when guns were first brought overland from Tennessee into Moss Point by American fur trappers. Until recently, firearms regulation in Moss Point was conducted through the local sheriff's department. However, this system has been replaced by a city-wide ordinance pursuant to which all residents must obtain a license to own or use a firearm within city limits. The earliest handguns used in Moss Point were percussion cap rifles and shotguns imported from England. Gunmakers in China also acquired some English-made pistols during the late 1800s for use in their indigenous population. The early handgun proliferation in America was due to two factors: the increasing availability of fast rifle rounds (firearm bullets were limited to around .22 inches caliber) and the spread of hunting parties across wide areas after European settlement. By 1833, pistol magazines had become widely available throughout America thanks to Jay Cooke's transportation companies' efforts to bring weapons into large quantities at low prices. Shotguns soon followed suit as widespread deer hunting led to an increase demand for shotguns that could chamber larger rounds than previous designs. In 1835, moss point merchants formed an association known as "The Merchants'," which began lobbying for passage of legislation authorizing handgun licensing and registration within their community.On January 16th, 1840, The Merchants' Association successfully lobbied Congress for the enactment of what would become known as Second Amendment amendments to the US Constitution; this amendment granted individuals rights "to keep and bear arms." Gun violence increased significantly during Reconstruction following slavery's emancipation; however, gun control measures enacted by both state governments and militia forces prevented any major incidents from taking place until well into the 20th century. In 1939, NRA lobbyists working with local Mayor Clements convinced then President Franklin D Roosevelt that it was time for Moss Point to join other municipalities along its coastlines Medline Beach (Alabama), Mobile Bay (Alaska), Monrovia (Louisiana), Pensacola (Florida), Quincy Harbor ( Massachusetts ), etc., and establish an armory within its municipally owned building on Commercial Street specifically designed as such.[1] FDR signified his intent by ordering General Electric Company president James Fenton[2]to start construction on this project without delay – not only did he want Fort Knox ready for combat should World War II break out but he also believed that Armament Research Laboratories would play an important role therein - eventually becoming GALI[3]. A year later on November 1st 1940 fort Knox opened its doors flanked by six high walls housing military rifles including Thompson submachineguns[4], machineguns such as Browning Automatic Weapons(BAAW)), M1911A1 pistols (.45 ACP)and Beretta semiautomatic pistols (.380ACP). The Moss Point community is home to a number of gun protections history. The city was once the site of several gunfights that left three people dead and nine injured. Most notably, the rifle fight at the Cotton Gin in 1892 left four people dead and thirteen injured. Moss Point is a town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area and has a population of 5 million people. Moss Point is known for its seafood and shipbuilding industries. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Moss Point were Frenchmen who arrived in 1799 and built a sawmill there. The mill was destroyed by Indians in 1802 but replaced by one of the first cotton gin facilities in America, which began operating in 1824. In 1830, John Lewis built a store on Bayou Teche; it was the only store open until 1870 when the Haywood Lumber Company established itself here. By 1840, moss point had become an important center for shipping goods between Mobile and New Orleans due to its location on Bayou Teche or "the water path". In 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg moved his army from Corinth to enter Mississippi to attack Union forces under Ulysses S Grant near Vicksburg; he chose Moss Point as his Headquarters because it offered plenty of room to build new units without having to leave their encampment. After Union forces overran Corinth on April 12–13, 1862, Bragg's army made their way northeast along Bayou Teche towards Moss Point before turning back south towards Tupelo Junction on April 15th – this action led to heavy casualties among Union forces including many officers killed or captured during the retreat across Bayou Teche. On May 3rd Confederate General Robert E Lee advanced from Tupelo Junction towards Meridian (then located about southeast of present-day Moss Point) after driving Federal troops out of that town three days earlier; he then turned north towards Meridian where he encountered Federal General Nathaniel Banks' army marching from Sherman's department eastward along Interstate 10 en route to Chattanooga). When they met at Battle Creek Bridge near present-day Yazoo City (about northwest of present-day Moss Point), Confederate General James Longstreet ordered his cavalry charges against Banks' force resulting in some 60 men being killed or wounded while Edward Pogue recorded: "The rout went through like men wading through bloodless swamps".[3] This engagement helped turn tide against Confederates at a crucial time within the war effort and paved the way forUnion victory at Chattanooga two weeks later.[4] Aftermath: Confederate general Braxton Bragg retreating with his army past Vicksburg Museum plaque commemorating battle

It was located on the banks of the Mississippi River, close to where today's town is located. In 1896, the name of the town was changed from "Moss Point" to "Ochs City". Ochs City became a city in 1907 when it annexed the neighboring town of West Egg. The city limits were expanded in 1920 when East Egg was annexed by Moss Point. The population of Moss Point reached 100,000 residents by 1930 and peaked at 150,000 residents in 1940-1941; however, due to World War II and other economic factors, its population fell below 50,000 by 1945. The oil industry played a significant role in early Moss Point history. During the 1800s, oil exploration began near present-day Ochs City and Moss Point; these explorations led to the development of both towns and businesses along with much infrastructure necessary for oil production: pipelines, wells, refineries etcetera. In 1910-1911 Captain Elisha Bogue lead an American Expeditionary Force into Spanish Florida which explored Gulf Coastoil fields; while there he discovered large quantities of oil well that would later be developed at Ochs City Refinery (now part of ExxonMobil). As a result of this discovery two gas stations were built within walking distance of each other on Commerce Street – one manned by Capt’n Bogue’s men and one run by local businessmen as part of what became known as “the GAS BOOMERANG” period during which different interests fought for control over resources such as oil but alluring opportunities also arose for those who could capitalize on this new energy source( see BP Exploration History ). Oil production stopped after World War II because prices rose too high; however natural gas production has continued since then with several major companies currently operating rigs off shore .
