Moss Point is a town in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first gun grip factory in Moss Point was built by William H. Helms and his brother-in-law John Davenport in 1885. The factory manufactured pistols for the military and law enforcement officers. In 1903, Julius Caesar Askew opened a gun grip manufacturing company in Moss Point which became worldfamous for their pistols made from 1914 to 1933 under the name Browning & Co.. Askew patented many of the features that went into those famous guns such as their "beaded" grip or integral checkering on select models. In 1934, Browning merged with Remington Arms Company and changed its name to Remington & Co., Incorporated. shotgun production continued until 1978 when it was discontinued due to pressure from Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation (Winchester). That same year, Moss Point's first grocery store opened called The Grocery Mart

Moss Point is a town in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. The population was 12,546 at the 2010 census. Moss Point was established in 1836 as a landing on the Yazoo River by settlers who had fled to the area from Natchez. The town grew slowly but steadily over the next century until it reached its peak in the early 1960s with a population of 24,000. Today, Moss Point remains an agricultural community with few residents and limited industry. The first permanent settler in what is now Moss Point was James Dickey Sr., who arrived in 1836 and founded what would become Dickey's Landing on the Yazoo River. By 1840, other pioneers had joined Dickey and his group and they began to build homes and businesses around their landing site. In 1845, John Sibley established Sibley's Landing on the river opposite where Dickey's Landing now stands. This location served as both a landing and trading post for farmers looking for goods out of Natchez downriver. In 1851, General Andrew Jackson purchased land east of present-day Moss Point from Wm Hogg for $1 million dollars (around $140 million today). The purchase represented one of the largest land sales ever made in Mississippi history at that time. At this point, many of Mississippi’s leading families were moving westward across the state to take advantage of newly developed railroads and opportunities for business ownership beyond their previous home states such as Georgia and Tennessee . The move left many Mississippians behind as they migrated into Arkansas , Texas , New Mexico Territory (Oklahoma) or California . Jackson named his new tract of land "Moss Point" after Admiral David Dixon Morton – whom he met during his western tour – because moss growing naturally along banks adjacent to rivers helped identify properties suitable for development near Mobile Bay . As development continued throughout this era it became difficult to keep up with demand from settlers eager to start new lives within minutes' walk of mills which were constantly churning out revenue stream based on cotton exports . However due to government incentives such as free passage through Indian Territory onboats carrying cargoes worth more than binding duty – which led directly to increased cotton production inland – some farmers managed success despite competition from nearby plantations while others failed repeatedly to make ends meet despite investing large sums into agriculture only to see their fields fall victim once again to advances in technology etc..
