Polk via boat arrived at Mobile Bay on December 8, 1844 and saw the village of Mccomb on land that now forms part of Gulfport, he said to his aide-de-camp Colonel Talmadge: "I shall be obliged if you will take me there." In 1848, Methodists founded a settlement known as Cedar Grove about three miles northwest of present day McCombsville. These early Methodists were followed by Baptists in 1850 and Presbyterians in 1851 before finally becoming Congregationalists in 1865 When white men began coming into Mississippi during Reconstruction they set up businesses such as grocery stores and hotels which led to increased trade along the riverfront including with Chicago In 1937 MCCOMB had a population of 514 people but by 1980 had reached its current size with 10,513 residents Although Uniontown (to the south) experienced some destruction during World War II most citizens appear to have avoided military service or been unaffected During this time black families also established themselves within their respective communities making segregation difficult If not impossible By 1990 only 4%of all residents were black while 95%were white

Throughout this time period, the town underwent many changes that helped make it one of the most important places in Mississippi. For example, in 1902, Mccombs railroad station was built on US-23 near present day Bryantville. This station served as a key transportation hub for thetown until it was replaced by Interstate 20 in 2001. Additionally, Mccomb hosted numerous events during this time period such as the Cotton States Fair which took place from 1907 to 1911 and World's Columbian Exposition which took place from 1915 to 1917
Mccomb, Mississippi was established in 1819 by Captain John A. McClomb with the help of a group of men from Illinois. The town was named for General Andrew Jackson and it became one of the most important military posts in the region. The town developed into a small farming community with heavy industry coming later on.
