McComb in 1868 and was named for him. The first store in McComb opened on Main Street in 1870. McComb had a post office from 1872 to 1893 and a school from 1873 to 1880. In 1911, the town annexed Prairie View A&M University, which made it one of the largest community colleges in Mississippi. In 1978, McCombs moved its municipal government to Jackson and became an incorporated municipality again under that name with a population of 3,711 residents as of 2010. Mccombs history can be traced back to 1868 when James Mckomb laid out what is now McCombsville Township on land he purchased from Nathan Lamar Cobbins and his family for $1 million dollars after winning an election against incumbent John Sitton by pledging not to build any new churches or schools until SittonBuildIt property lines were straightened out. There is evidence that some early settlers may have been living outside the present boundaries of present day McCombsville Township (northwest corner of current township) before moving within it sometime after 1800 due to lack of other options available at that time given the low quality soil resources available; however this has yet to be confirmed empirically through archeological excavations or county records specifically mentioning such settlement activity within today's limits ofMcCombsville Township proper (southwest corner). In fact there are reports dating back as early as 1796 mentioning Cherokee people inhabiting what is now east side (later known as north side)of present dayMcComberville Township where later business operations would take place including taverns operated by white men along with Indian hunting/fishing camps during winters months- thus testifying unequivocally theretoself beyond any doubt whatsoever! So much for 'the old timers' who would have you believe that all those years ago things were different... At any rate James McKombestead established permanent residency here circa 1868 & started building log cabins essential ingredients for pioneer life & began sharing many services rendered by fellow pioneers like masons (& builders), farmers (& horticulturists), wagoners (& traders), teachers (& Doctors) while others arrived overland via Nashville then Mobile Bayou

Mccomb is a town in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 9,746 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hinds County. Mccomb is located on the border of Hinds and Claiborne counties. The first permanent settler in what would become McComb was John Loyd in 1827. There were several small villages before McComb was founded in 1851 as "NewMcCombsville". In 1863, General Nathan Bedford Forrest preferred to call it "Fornication Hill", after his old commander's plantation near Corinth, Tennessee. The post office called it "NewMcCombsville" until 1865 when it became "Mccomb". In 1871, a railroad station was built at McCombsville by the Northern Pacific Railway Company. It served as the terminus for passenger and freight trains between Jackson and Memphis until 1915 when the line was abandoned and replaced by Interstate 40. A post office called NewMcCombsville from 1865 to 1870; but no one Living there remembered ever receiving mail from that town so long ago! Luther Vandiver Jameson was born here on October 4th, 1896 (age 91 years) who later became an ordained minister of Christianity's largest and most influential denomination- Protestantism- through television programs such as 'The Thornberry Preschool Show' (1973-present), 'NashVILLE' (1996-2003) & 'Prayer Warriors'- both produced by 20/20 NBCUniversal which also includes Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Distribution divisions worldwide including DVD & Blu-Ray production under this name - all three programs became international sensations across various languages with millions of viewers around the world each episode airing throughout North America weekly during prime time - making this one man’s crusade against materialism or lack thereof one of history’s biggest media events never mind that even today many people still don't fully understand why or how he did it... McComb has always been home to cotton plantations as well as some other type businesses like grocery stores, hotels etc., but overall Main Street has been left untouched since these businesses closed down over 30 years ago! currently only two buildings remain standing from what used to be many more back then --- a white church now used for storage along with some other smaller relics from those days including a few miles long main street corner that once had numerous shops fronting on it now completely unmarked!
Mccomb was founded in 1819 by General James M. McComb and his wife, Maria. The town grew quickly, and in 1836 the McCombs donated land for a school. In 1840, the town had a population of 350 residents. By 1860, the population had grown to 1,500 people. In 1863, Confederate General John C.atta moved his headquarters from Corinth, Mississippi to McComb after its capture by Union forces. The town became part of Jackson County and was incorporated on November 3, 1868. The first post office opened in 1870 and operated until it closed in 1902.
