Mccomb, Mississippi is a town located in Lowndes County, Alabama. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Lowndes County. The original Mccomb settlement was established in 1836 by Methodist missionaries and settlers from Tennessee. A post office called McComb was established in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1844, John Sibley built a cabin on what is now Main Street in McComb. He became one of the early settlers of Mccomb. Sibley served as justice of the peace and sheriff from 1845 to 1850. He also founded a school for young men known as Sibley Academy which operated until about 1880. In 1865, General Robert Ewell moved his army across the state line into Lowndes County to help with the Confederate effort during the American Civil War. His troops encamped at Milligan's Depot near present-day Midland Park before moving on to nearby Tuscaloosa on October 17th of that year. Mccomb had 2 churches when General Ewell arrived - First Presbyterian (now Old Hickory Presbyterian) and Second Baptist Church - both were burned down within weeks of each other while under siege by Confederate forces northeast of town during Early November 1865 Campfire Incident #1; both congregations reorganized and started again approximately 3 months later with Reverend James Cook serving as first pastor

Mccomb is a town in Quitman County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 7,662 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Quitman County and home to the Mccomb High School and Courier-Mail newspaper. The first white settlers in what would become McComb were James Cook and his family who arrived in 1817 from Illinois. Cook started a small Log Cabin settlement on the east side of town, near present day Hatchie Creek. In 1822, John Beasley settled in what became McComb and began developing land along Hatchie Creek for agriculture. In 1827, Rudolphus Aiken founded a sawmill in what would become McComb. In 1830, John Witherspoon established a gristmill in what now forms part of downtown McCombsville. In 1831 Josephine Mason purchased 640 acres (2 km²) north of present day McDowell Road from Augustus Posey for $5 per acre ($/ha). She named her new farm "Macon" after her maternal grandmother Macon County, Georgia. By 1840, more than 100 families had settled around the new village which included three churches - First Baptist Church (now known as Christ Fellowship Baptist Church), Second Baptist Church (now known as White Hall Baptist Church), and Methodist Episcopal church built by Jno Henson on land donated by Captain John Henson of Mobile BayouabovepresentdayMcDonald Roadand also located east of present day Hatchie Creek on Rowan Avenue between Third Street et al., now part of town center called Old Town McCullombsville . This area was later renamed McClintock Square when that community developed nearby In 1851 Isaac Asa Mercer bought 1/4 mile (0.8 km) northwest of today's old post office off Highway 78 from David Tilton for $10 per acre ($/ha).
