It is safe to say that the history of gun targets in McComb, Mississippi dates back at least to the turn of the century. Mr. and Mrs. John A. Blanton, both natives of Beaumont, Texas, settled in McComb in 1881 and soon began erecting their own NRA-sponsored clay pigeons shooting range on what is now Fourth Street. It was not long before they were joined by others in the town and from there it was but a matter of time until target shooting became an integral part of everyday life for locals hereabouts. Today’s McComb Municipal Shooting Range (MUR) is one of only a few such facilities remaining throughout Mississippi and indeed, it boasts some impressive cache of firearms memorabilia dating back to when this area was first populated by Native Americans. Notable among these include several “Buffalo Bill” rifles used by law enforcement officers during the early 1900s; as well as a very unique military target rifle dating from World War I that has been preserved inside the current facility since 1939. The MUR also features a number of replica firearms including 1911 pistols and other models manufactured by firearm manufacturers all across America during various eras; many which have been painstakingly restored to their former glory by our talented volunteers over the years. In addition to its Firearms Museum component, MUR also offers a variety of hunting/field activities available for purchase or rental including skeet/clay pigeon shoots, deer hunts (including muzzleloader seasons), 10-meter airgun matches (for ages 8 thru 12), Trap & Rod Shooting events with shotguns only, as well as skeet/clay golf tournaments where participants may shoot up to 54 rounds per day! Of course, nothing could be more enjoyable than spending an afternoon target shooting at MUR – regardless thereof occasion!

Gun targets in McComb, Mississippi have been a part of the community since at least the early 1800s. The first cannons were brought to McComb in 1824 and began firing on Feb. 15, 1825. The town was founded on a small island near the mouth of the Mississippi River, and guns were used to protect settlers from Native Americans. In 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee came to McComb and was met with resistance by the local residents; however, he ultimately surrendered at Appomattox Court House. During Reconstruction in America, gun violence increased as white supremacists attempted to take control of black neighborhoods. Gunfights occurred throughout this time period as communities tried to rebuild their economies and police forces were not yet established
Mccomb is a small town located in McComb County, Mississippi. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. Mccomb is the county seat of McComb County. The town is named for General James McCumber, who served as Confederate War Secretary from 1861 to 1865 and as U.S. Minister to Spain from 1865 to 1868. The first settlers in what is now McComb County were three men, Major John Fenton, Captain James Dillard and Major David Dixon, who arrived in 1795 on the Bushnell Expedition. They platted the towns of Athens and Meridian on the bluffs overlooking Mobile Bayou near present-day Corinth Street and Third Street. Athens was abandoned in 1800 because of a lack of water supply; Meridian continued to be developed until 1827 when it incorporated as a city under charter from Jackson Territory government officials related to its strategic location between Mobile Bayou on one side and Spanish Fort on another. In 1836 an act was passed by Congress which authorizes purchase of all public land within Tennessee by United States Government for $10 per acre (this act became law on January 12, 1840). This included land east of Memphis that had been ceded by Shelby County after the battle at Chickamauga Creek (September 20–25,1813). A group of gentlemen investors led by Colonel Elijah Bridgwater purchased 640 acres (24 hectares) northeast of Corinth Street from Andrew Jackson's successor as President – John Quincy Adams – for $2 per acre ($40 / km²). After Bridgwater died childless in 1851 his estate fell into disrepair until it was purchased by Prentice Hall president Charles Wertheimer in 1909 and dedicated to education with funds donated by Jelliedoe Hirschfeld Lindbergh Sr., brother-in-law of aviator Amelia Earhart. In 1925 Mr. Wertheimer sold interest in Prentice Hall Properties Incorporated adjacent to Boundary Road to Miss Earhart for $6 million becoming part of her Oak Cliff homecoming celebration along with other items including her Lockheed Electra airplane hangar/shop complex which still stands today adjacent to Highway 90 southbound exit ramp off I-565 just north of Corinth Street corner marked “Mrs Earhart’s property” today! In 1932 Mrs Earhart organized one hundred students into two agricultural Magnet schools known as North Central Agricultural School District No 2ndGrade through 8th grade grades K-4 nearest school bus stop #822 located just south side highway 90 exit ramps off I-565 just north side old Mrs Earhart's property line

Mccomb, Mississippi is a small town located in the west-central part of the state of Mississippi. The population was 8,770 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The community was named for General Andrew McCombs, who served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs for Mississippi from 1872 to 1878. The town was founded on a trading post established by Colonel John Wilkinson in 1832. In 1830, General McCombs built a house here and spent his winters while he was stationed in Mobile, Alabama, managing Indian affairs for the locals and providing leadership during Tecumseh’s Rebellion. In 1840, General James Kountz moved his family to this area and founded Mccomb with land grants from Congress. By 1850, Mccomb had become an important center for cotton production due to its location near Mobile Bayou and its access to transportation links within and outside of Mississippi. Cotton exports grew rapidly during this time as different sections of the country developed plantations that used Mccomb as their main shipping point for goods exported to other parts of America. The white residents began moving out of Mccomb beginning in the late 19th century as new railroad projects came through central Mississippi and neighboring states; these projects led to increased competition for available jobs between black workers and whites and increased violence against African Americans throughout the region. As white migration increased overall in Jackson County (the county that includes Mccomb), racism continued to play an important role in local interactions until well into the 20th century; examples include cases such as Mayor Catton's decision not to allow African American students into Jackson High School after integration occurred in 1963). MCCOMB first became involved with organized religion when Reverend Elisha Hanger organized a church congregation here in 1892-93 under guidance from Bishop Lewis Jarrell of Memphis. Pastor Hanger also helped found Cumberland Presbyterian Church (now known as First Baptist) which opened its doors here on January 1st, 1893. Reverend Hanger remains one of history's most significant figures associated with MCCOMB today - he continues operations at Stoker Park United Methodist Church across from Main Street on Highway 90 just north of town limits where he has been pastor since 1978! After years of growth within both denominations following service outreach programs facilitated by Reverend Hancer himself - including Sunday school instruction through videotaped lessons given directly onto large screens outdoors - both congregations closed their doors permanently around 2004 due largely to lackadaisical attitudes towards insurance coverage mandated by state law prohibiting religious services being conducted without proper insurance coverage! This situation led many people who were once members or families affected by churches close down activity completely or scale back participation while others adapted their methodsologies/approaches seeking more appropriate levels OF Coverage should something like this ever happen again!! Nowadays...almost everyone participates either online or through groups like ours which meets frequently at various locations across HWY 90!"
