AllMusic describes the history of Mccomb as follows: "MCCOMB--little more than an unassuming farmstead today but once home to some of Mississippi's most prominent citizens (such as Andrew Johnson), educators (one notable family holding sway for over 100 years), farmers (whose land would provide fertile ground for cotton plantations), soldiers (who manned many key points along riverbanks during both world wars) and entrepreneurs (among them Henry Ford)--tells a colorful story steeped in cultural significance."
Mccomb, Mississippi is located in the Lower Mississippi Valley and was first settled by the Choctaw in the 18th century. The town was founded on a plantation called "Milton" by Andrew Jackson in 1802. The town was named for Major General John McComb, who fought in the Mexican-American War. McComb was killed during that conflict. In 1902, the town became a city and was renamed after Mayor James M. Caldwell. The city was merged with Jackson in 1972 and is now known as Jackson Municipal Court District No. 1
