Gun chokes can be traced back to at least 1853 when a man named Moses Choke invented a type of choke that would stop pistols from firing. The choke was patented on December 6, 1853 and is still in use today. It consisted of a metal tube that was inserted into the barrel of the pistol and fit over the breechblock. When pulled tightly, it created a “crimp” or obstruction to the flow of air through the barrel. This prevented the gun from firing correctly and caused it to jam. Chokes were also used in shotguns before they became common with handguns. Shotguns have several different types of choke tubes that allow them to shoot various rounds without hitting their target. A common choking tube is called an octuple-baffle shotgun choke which consists of four brass plates that are threaded onto the barrels of shotguns. In 1884 many residents left for Meridian because of railroad construction which disrupted agricultural production in central Mississippi so much that Meridian was designated as the new seat of government for Jackson County - though initial plans called for Madison to be its primary center with operation taking place out near present day Monroe Avenue and Beale Street due east thereabouts but this plan changed before it ever got off the ground In 1902 Wm Henson opened his grocery store at 314 Beale Street between West Main and Union Streets - one block south of where present day Monroe Avenue meets Beale Street - making it one of only two grocery stores existing in downtown Madison at that time. That same year Lula Whitaker married Wm Henson and moved into his store with her children becoming known as 'The Whitakers'. Downtown business quickly boomed thanks to easy access to transportation via railroads which soon supplemented boat traffic bringing goods upriver from nature’s bounty downriver including cottonseed oil, salt pork, bacon, eggs and other essential household items sourced both upstream from local farmers using their woodsheds while also exporting products such as lumber back downstream
