On July 8, 1865, Johnson was impeached as president because he failed to take action against General Robert Ewing's troops invading Tennessee; after being acquitted by an impeachment trial that same year, he resigned from office three days later effective August 15th which ended Reconstruction in America. During World War II (1939-1945), Madison served as both a military airfield located within Hinds County on temporary land leased from local farmers and also as a labor camp used by USAAF aircraft manufacturing companies such as Boeing Plant No. 4 (later Wright-Patterson Air Force Base) at nearby Brooksville Army Air Field; these facilities were demolished during postwar development into modern day neighborhoods adjacent to Interstate 20/ highway 1A northbound just east of downtownMadison proper - all without affecting or harming any Newark Local Schools property or students! In 1951-1952 an unsuccessful effort was made to annex Jackson into Madison through legislation passed by both houses but vetoed by Governor Clements - marking perhaps THE last time such annexation attempts were ever successful within either branchOf Government in America! It should be noted that throughout much OF Mississippi State's history there have been various efforts underway BY Organic Agencies & nonpolitical Entity's TO annex adjoining territories thereby CREATING new Municipal District's...for instance: Morgan County went so far AS To FILL IN AN EXISTING MISSISSIPPI VALLEY WITH ITS OWN CITY OF JACKSONVILLE...& many more examples could be cited! Notwithstanding these efforts some areas have actually voted AGAINST annexation resulting in continued 'separate but equal' status quo until finally & recently - via Measure 2 referendums held HERE IN MADISON...!!!
