Long Beach, Mississippi is a small town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous community in Jackson County and part of the Mobile metropolitan area. The name of Long Beach comes from its location on the Gulf Coast between Mobile Bay and Shreveport Bay. The first Europeans to visit Long Beach were Spanish colonists who landed there in 1565. A wharf was built on what is now Ninth Street in 1810 by Commodore John Covington as part of his efforts to secure passage for his fleet through the Inland Sea to Mexico City. By 1830, Long Beach had become a thriving commercial center with plantations and tanneries along Second Street and Fourth Avenue. In 1871, when cotton prices collapsed following the American Civil War, many people abandoned their plantations for various reasons including joblessness and lack of money. However, others such as Henry Quick started manufacturing goods such as shoes and hats using slave labor on Third Street between First Avenue and Second Street until 1886 when he moved his operations to a new factory at Fifth Avenue and eastbound US-1 (now US-14). The town had been largely destroyed by fire by 1907 which killed more than 100 residents; however it quickly recovered with an increasing number of businesses reopening again after insurance companies paid out millions of dollars in damage claims attributable to arson during that year's cotton famine caused by Hurricane Andrew. During World War II large numbers of Japanese Americans living in Southern California came to work on munitions plants north of Long Beach; however they left before hostilities began because they were worried about military action against Japan near their homes. After the war ended many Japanese Americans returned home but some continued living near the munitions plants until they were evicted in 1972 when federal law changed Drambuie Boulevard into state Route 522 (now I-565). On November 16th 1921 a tornado ripped through downtown Long Beach killing thirteen people; however due to its destructive power it remains one of America's worst natural disasters ever recorded with property damage estimations reaching $24 million ($ million today) including $12 million (1994 dollars) alone to infrastructure owners within three blocks thereof! On July 15th 1935 an EF5 tornado touched down just northeast of town centre destroying homes, businesses and much else within sight while resulting in ninety fatalities across eleven counties touching down within five miles! Even though this event remains oneof America's deadliest tornadoes ever documented it fortunately resulted onlyin partial destruction or loss totaling only $2 million ($million today) compared to total losses suffered throughout Jackson CountY’s central business district during that fateful day back then estimated at over $100million!

By 1863, Poston had been replaced by Long Beach as the largest city in Mississippi Territory.Throughout its history, Long Beach has been known for its vibrant cultural life and diverse businesses. Today it remains one of America's most livable cities – boasting some of the highest quality restaurants and shops available anywhere!
