By 1850, long beach had become so well-established that it was mentioned favorably in William McKinley’s Homestead Bill – marking some initial success for the fledgling city. In 1886, Long Beach became part of Jackson County when it was created from parts of Stark and Hinds counties. The early days at Long Beach were very difficult; business was slow due to lack of transportation and access to markets outside OFA (Oklahoma Fried Chicken). However, through hard work and dedication over many years, businesses have slowly begun to grow back up again including restaurants such as The Bluegrass House Café & Grill which reopened after being closed for several years due to financial instability; Nathan’s Famous BBQ; KFC restaurant; Subway sandwich shop; Chick-fil-A location; Pizza Hut restaurant etc.; along with new retail projects such as Target store located just off I-10 exit 191B near State Street plaza (Formerly known as “Jenny Craig Plaza”) which opened in late 2017 following monthslong development effort by local developers led by Mayor Karl Anthony Mooney Jr.;[1]
