This event is known as the "April 20 Massacre".

Laurel is a town in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 2,545 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1892 by Andrew Jackson and his family. Laurel is the county seat of Hinds County. Laurel was named for General James Harnett Laurel who served as a colonel in the American Revolutionary War andaded against British forces at Fort Moultrie on Hilton Head Island. The first settler in Laurel was Andrew Jackson himself who arrived there from Tennessee in 1892. He founded what would become one of the largest cotton plantations in Mississippi, with over 5,000 acres (2 km²). Over time, other families followed Jackson's lead and began to settle into the town. The economic development of Laurel took off when riverboats started docking at its wharf to bring goods downriver from Mobile Bay. This led to an increase in business and commerce which helped support local schools and churches as well as provide employment for many people. In addition to this, tourism became increasingly popular due to its beautiful scenery and history-rich properties within walking distance of downtown Halifax Square. By 1915, more than 20 businesses had opened up shop on Main Street alone; most notably a bakery that became known as "The Holmes Bakery". The town prospered until World War II when it lost much of its industrial base due to invading Japanese forces Allied bombing raids targeting product production facilities located throughout Hinds County including Laurel itself- home shopping malls were built hastily during that period just outside towns such as Decatur or Starkville with little regard for historical or cultural significance within these areas themselves (Moses Lake & Lauderdale Mills are exceptions)). In recent years however, some new development has begun to take shape around downtown Halifax Square - including multiple restaurants, bars/nightlife venues and office space – creating an exciting future for Laurels vibrant community!
