A road connecting Memphis with Nashville was built through Jackson in 1825; this road served as an important link between these two slave-based economies and helped support local blacksmiths and farmers while providing access to transportation for goods that reached both cities. When prices for cotton dropped during the 1830s because global trade competition increased demand for cheap Indian hemp fiber, many farms abandoned cotton production due to adverse weather conditions or low yields; however some families continued to produce crops until after World War II. In 1840 Union troops burned down one hundred homes near present day downtown Jacksonville during their raid on Mobile Bayou; this event later came to be known as "themoral burning" because it led many people withinJacksonvilleto flee into exile rather than faced retribution by General Order No 3 issued by Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest immediately following Mobile Bayou's burning: order which ordered all citizens living west of Interstate 15 not to cross into Union territory without orders fromGeneral Forrest himself The early 21st century saw gradual changes take place within Jackson County as African American residents moved out into surrounding counties such as Hinds, Lauderdale, Oktibbeha and Marion Counties over successive waves of integration throughout America resulting from political agitation ignited by civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King Jr., culminating with passage of the Civil Rights Act Amendments Voting Rights Act (1964) signed by President Lyndon Johnson creating national monitoring programs responsible for inspecting voting facilities across America including those located in inner-city areas controlled by African Americans

After leaving office, President Jackson returned to live near Memphis until his death in 1865. His widow stayed behind and gradually regained control over her family's business interests until her death in 1930. Today much of what was once known about local history has been lost to time but there are several artifacts that remain from this period including some remains from early white settlement along with tools used by Native Americans when they first arrived hereabouts
