By 1840, only about 10% of Jackson's population remained within its original limits; most had moved farther east or west across the state line into Alabama or Tennessee. This movement northeast took place despite efforts by early settlers to maintain friendly relations with Mississippians by hosting picnics and other events attended byboth groups during summer months (the Indian Summer). Indians also attacked white settlers intermittently throughout this time period; one such attack occurred on July 6, 1838, when nine men were killed and twelve injured when an ambush party raiders destroyed two homes near Meridianville while their families slept. The violence caused some African Americans also to flee southward for fear they would be similarly targeted if they stayed behind. However, many blacksmiths who worked on plantations nearby did not leave until after passage through Mexican territory allowed them back into America under Ulysses S Grant's Readmission Act of 1870 made blacks again citizens full members of all US states without distinction based on race or color – an event often referred to as Reconstruction (reparation) era Jacksonization (re-establishment). In 1850 Census data available through 1860 shows that only 1% black Mississippians lived within 100 miles (160 kilometers)of Nashville; however this percentage increased rapidly beginning around 1870 as railroads arrived which led more blacks into Nashville en masse looking for work opportunities – eventually making it one of the most racially integrated cities in America at that time . whites continued moving outnumbering blacks until percentages reached nearly 50 percent by 1900 . In addition%, much progress was made towards black education starting with Booker T Washington’s Tuskegee Institute located just outside Montgomeryville soon after he assumed presidency – leading directly to greater participation within society overall among both races beginning around 1915
