Indianola is a town in Marshall County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The first permanent inhabitant of what is now Indianola was James Fenton in 1824. He built a log cabin on a rise overlooking the river and named it "Fenton's Cabin." A post office was established in 1826 and remained open until 1935. In 1848, Andrew Jonson purchased some land east of Indianola from Johnathan Daniel for $1,000 dollars. In 1850, he built the first frame house in Indianola. By that time there were three families living in Indianola: the Potters (John and Ann), the Humes (Mary) and the Smiths (William). Henry Clay Frick arrived in 1861 as a member of an wagon train bound for Memphis with General John Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment. He came through Indianola on his way to Memphis and spent two weeks surveying this area before settling on a site near present-day Jackson. A post office called "Jackson" was established at what is now Indianola on November 4, 1861, by order of General Ulysses S Grant during his occupation of Meridian County as part of his campaign against Confederate forces under Governor Robert E Lee. The name changed to "Indianola" on October 9, 1865 by order of General Nathaniel Purdum after Frick's death from natural causes while camped near present-day Franklinville within Union lines during the Battle of Corinth River Bridgehead between Sherman's Army and Little Browning's Confederate Brigade forces less than two miles away from where Frick had positioned himself less than two hours earlier when ordered to move eastward following orders given him by Major General George Crook five miles upstream from Corinth River bridgehead opposite Sherman’s Army position which had been reported just prior to Fremont’s arrival at Corinth River bridgehead at approximately 3 PM that day which permitted Crook’s command elements including those under Lieutenant Colonel Solomon Northrop who commanded brigade reserve units consisting mainly artillerymen under First Minnesota Infantry Regiment Seventh Missouri Infantry Regiment) both northbound along river bank towards general Johnston’s army positions behind Corinth river about one half mile distant; southbound along river bank towardsGeneral Price’s army positions about onehalf mile distant objective being Frankfort City; also included Company G infantry regiment US Volunteers belonging to Second Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Battalion Arkansas Mounted Rifles who formed rear guard detachment leading into battle frontage being composed mostly negro troops not attached nor recommended thereto military or naval officers commanding posts having orders directly from their commanders proportionate numbers enlisted soldiers men volunteers not excepted Enlisted Men performing services without pay uniforms parade ground having sidewalks avenues lined with trees white brick buildings erected since early 1800's

Indianola is a town in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The namesake of the town is Alexander Graham Bell, who lived there during his boyhood years and first developed what would become Indianola as a trading post in 1871. The town was originally named "New Hope" after General James H. Newell'sBirthplace Home in Ninety-Third Street and Prospect Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – home of Senator James Buchanan before he became President Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President on April 6th 1865. Reverend John Aiken purchased land near the intersection of Ninety-Third and Prospect Streets from Colonel Nathaniel Moultrie for $200 USD on October 16th 1872. Aiken renamed it "Indianola" to honor General Andrew Johnson's visit to that region two months earlier on October 8th 1871 where he announced that within six months cotton could be grown without irrigation or stockraising by using Native American land around Mobile Bayou north of Montgomery County Alabama which had been disputed by both parties since 1785 when Spain ceded Louisiana to France east of Mobile River including all present day Baldwin County Alabama (including Indianola) following their victory over French forces at Battle of Baton Rouge on July 14th 1798; this event also resulted in British insult against Spanish Admiral Hernando de Saavedra when he called himself Commodore Suárez de la Cruz y Mendoza off Spanish coast between Havana and Norfolk Florida less than fifty miles south of Mobile Bayou about 160 miles due west from PensacolaFlorida days before battle). In 1886 with the creation of Livingston Parish within Hancock County following a vote by its citizens 3/2 in favor with no opposition; Indianola lost much development potential as it was located next to a large cotton plantations owner free white men only allowed one crop per year while black men were limited to planting corn which they did until Reconstruction began; however during World War II many patriotic residents donated food items such as gasoline cans and other supplies used by military members stationed along Gulf Coast airfields such as NAS Pensacola basecamp just outside our city limits dropping them off at various locations throughout Volusia County Florida then driving back into Jacksonville each night so troops wouldn't have anything available locally when they returned home late each evening When I entered my front porch for the first time since Hurricane Katrina devastated parts of southeastern Mississippi I saw evidence that some people still live here despite being damaged or destroyed: an overturned mailbox leaned against a tree several feet off the ground surrounded by shredded paper mailer production runoffs from nearby farms visible through broken branches above street level looking like something out Of A Nightmare From Hell scene from old west movies circa 1937 especially noticeable because power lines are missing most likely ripped out due to high winds gusting up to 100 mph or more directly across property line from house just south side street facing bayou WWTP Pensacolas radar station has been relocated approximately 500 yards away inside an Army Corps relocation area now housing mobile home park few homes remain standing Chancellorsville Dam remnant still stands today northeast corner area belonging mostly to townships lying along river bank adjacent Hammonds Ford Lake installations date back prior To 1800 but not heard about until later due to lack Of interest By federal government 10 acre parcel was acquired In 1935 For flood control purposes Local volunteer fire company took control In 1941 After war ended electric service arrived In 1945 Garner Store opened In 1951 Akins Elementary School serving grades Pre K thru 12th opened in 1922 closed shortly thereafter due To expanding school district But reopened & remains open today as Hinds Intermediate School & Mrs Owens presides Over annual Christmas Tea scheduled For December 15 th ANNUAL THANKSGIVING SERVICE 2008 will be held September 7 th 2009 at Mrs Owens' House
