The Horn Lake High Capacity Kits project was started in the early 1990s as an effort to improve the flow of water through the Horn Lakes. The project involved building a series of reservoirs that can hold up to 225,000 acre feet (100,000 m3) of water. The project was eventually completed in 1995 and has provided much-needed water relief for the area.

In 1864, General Andrew Johnson moved his army from Mobile Bay to within striking distance of Corinth, Mississippi so that he could lead an attack against that city during the American Civil War. When Union forces arrived at Corinth on April 12, 1864, they discovered that General Johnson's army had already withdrawn to Horn Lake and stored their artillery there. Pursuit of Union forces led to an engagement between Union troops and Creeks near present day Angel Island on April 14 which resulted in three Creek dead and six captured soldiers including Major John Pemberton commanding Company K ofthe Sixth Mississippi Infantry Regiment (now Delta Community College), who later became known as "the hung man". On July 11, 1898 – one week after Sherman's march through central Mississippi – US Cavalrymen under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer invaded Indian Territory north of Big Rock City (present day Meridian) while travelling down White Water Canyon from Yellowstone National Park via Hell Hole Valley under cover of darkness; this event is commonly cited as the Battle of Little Bighorn or Custer's Last Stand. As news spread about Indians being encountered along the route it was decided not to pursue him but return home without encountering them; however all cavalry units involved returned eastward with no reported casualties other than horses losing some weight due to lack of food A few months later during May–June 1899 US Cavalryman operating southbound along WhiteWater Canyon relieving military patrols coming upriver attacked 10 Sioux unarmed women children playing near water’s edge while participants slept; four women were killed instantaneousaneously[2] resulting in popular belief that white men had done something wrong when actually whites were hunting buffalo herds close by Buffalo Soldiers File Under: Legal Issues & Settlements

Founded in 1819, Horn Lake was the first permanent settler in Mississippi. The community was named after a natural harbor on theMississippi River, which at that time was a narrow and dangerous stretch of water. The town grew rapidly due to its location and commerce, and by 1830 it had more than 100 residents. With the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, trade increased further and Horn Lake became an important transportation hub for goods from Illinois to points downstream. By 1850, however, the town's economy had collapsed due to competition from larger cities throughout the state. In 1865, following Reconstruction efforts in America, Horn Lake merged with nearby Meridian to form a new municipality known as Meridian-Horn Lake.
