The community was founded by white settlers in 1887. It was named for John D. Horn, a United States Senator from Michigan and a member of the Republican Party. According to the 2010 US Census, Horn Lake has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 613 people living in Horn Lake proper and an additional 269 people who lived in nearby villages and townships. As of the census[2] of 2007, only 206 people still lived in horn lake proper (down from 309 when last reported). In terms of demographics: White (85%), Black or African American (10%), Native American (1%), Asian/Pacific Islander (0%, 1%), Hispanic or Latino (5%, 8%)) make up most residents with minorities accounting for 12%. The median age is 37 years old with most residents being between 30 and 49 years old; 10% are below the poverty line while 36% identify as “other race” or “unknown race”

Horn Lake was a census-designated place in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,840 at the 2000 census. It is now an unincorporated community located in Hood County. In 1853, cotton planter John Pemberton founded the village of Horn Lake on his plantation near present day Meridian. He named it for his friend and neighbor on the plantation, General James Fayette Horn (1808-84). The first settler arrived in 1857 and by 1860 there were 10 houses and 50 people living in Horn Lake. A post office was established at Horn Lake in 1861, and remained in operation until 1932. The local Methodist Episcopal church built a log cabin as a chapel around 1870. In 1875, Rev Rufus Kapp donated land to form what is now the town square of downtown Horn Lake. At that time it consisted of just a few homes and two stores. Masonic lodge #11 soon erected its own building on the square which served as their meeting hall from 1876 through 1904 when they moved to new quarters east of town on US 90/Veterans Memorial Highway; this building still stands today! With its commanding southeast view over all of downtown Horn Lake (and much of central Hancock County), this lodge became one of the most conspicuous landmarks within town limits during its long history! In 1912 Dr J H Bemis organized local farmers into a grain elevator company which bought several thousand bushels of corn from Iuka & Hardin Elevator Co., Ltd., president C H Stratton being one of its incorporators’! In 1916 Stratton also started up the first oil refinery west side Jacksonport before shutting down about 1920 due to wartime restrictions! By 1922 only 2 buildings remained standing within town limits – this included Dr J H Bemis’ house which had been converted into an hotel since he retired from farming after World War I; this building still stands today as part of Historic District #2B for HornLake Village
Horn Lake was a small, isolated community located in central Mississippi. It is now a ghost town and the only remaining evidence of its existence is a small, abandon schoolhouse. The community was founded by farmers who planted corn and cotton in the area in the early 1800s. By 1881, horn lake had an population of just ten people. The Horn Lake School operated from 1881-1912. In 1912, it was replaced by an larger school which still stands today. After being abandoned for many years, the building was taken over by the local government and used as a library until it closed in 1984. Since its abandonment, the town has seen sporadic visits from tourists and locals who have tried to explore its remains for nostalgic reasons or to take pictures of the abandoned buildings.
