The first handgun ever made in Hernando County was created by Don Diego de la Cueva and used by him and his unit when attacking Native Americans on Long Island. In 1836, John Monee organized a gunsmithing shop in what is now known as downtown Hernando. At this time, gunfire wasn’t common outside of hunting or military purposes. However, because of this business venture, handguns became very popular among residents in the area. Eventually, Monee opened up another store called “The Gunsmith Shop” on Commercial Street which continued to be one of the most important businesses in town until it closed its doors in 1903 due to failing health. Throughout these years, many people have contributed their skills and knowledge to firearm production including miners who built cannons from ore found near their mines; merchants who peddled Firearms-grade ammunition; local farmers who grew crops using pistols; black men working as privates or members of white armies during Reconstruction; and amateurs who fashioned everything from shotguns to Revolvers into perfect shooters. It is interesting to note that despite all these efforts at innovation and success within the firearms industry, violence still plagued America during this time period resulting in numerous fatalities- both accidental (such as when children were shot by their parents while playing) and intentional (such as when Confederate soldiers killed three Union officers). Ultimately though, firearms played an essential role throughout American history helping make our country great!

In 1869, a group of men in Hernando, Mississippi, decided to start a gun club. The group named themselves the "Hernando Rifle and Pistol Club" and began to buy firearms. In 1872, they started a shooting competition at the local park. Winners were given shotguns and rifles from the club. Hernando is a small town in Mississippi, United States. It is located on the banks of the Tombigbee River. The name may be derived from Spanish Huguenot refugees who settled in the area in the mid-19th century. The first mention of Hernando was as "Hernando de Soto's Ford" on a map dated 1695. In 1818, Captain James Cook named it after Hernando de Soto, one of his voyages to America. The town was founded by Andrew Jackson in 1837 as part of his attempt to gain control over the Tombigbee River Valley and its trade with Alabama and Tennessee. Jackson had been governor of Georgia at the time he won the Mexican-American War and decided to venture into what he thought were hostile territory. He ordered General John Chilton to build Fort Mims on the site of present day Hernando; this fort served as a base forJackson's campaign against Native Americans upriver from Memphis. A post office was established at Hernando in 1840, and remained in operation until 1915. In 1851, cotton merchants built a sawmill on the banks of the Tombigbee River which became one of Mississippi's most important mills during that period. The mill closed around 1970 but remains standing as an example of early 20th century industrial development in Mississippi.] In 1861, Confederate Major General Braxton Bragg attacked Union forces at Harrisonburg Creek nearmodern day Meridian], resulting in about 50 casualties among Confederate forces and 3 destroyed Federal gunboats including USS "Meridian". This event helped spur Union efforts throughout much of 1862 to take Vicksburg before it could fall into Confederate hands] In 1865 following Vicksburg's fall, local residents voted to secede from Mississippi because they did not support Reconstruction policies enacted by Ulysses S Grant.] Afterward many people returned home or moved away due to political instability caused by Reconstruction][In 1976–1977[ white supremacists killed four Black students at Greenwood High School]; this led some residents back to their former homes] . Today there are few permanent residents living within Hernando limits due mostly to commuting distance for jobs outside town or lack thereof given current economic conditions.]

Hernando is a town in Harrison County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Hernando was founded in 1859 by Spanish settlers as Villa de las Americas and named for General Hernando de Soto. It became a city in 1915. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Harrison County in 1859. They were led by Captain John Sibley and his group of nine men from Illinois. Captain Sibley had come to the area on an exploration expedition led by General Andrew Jackson that had been sent to find new land for the United States. He found rich bottomland near present-day Jacksonville and decided to settle there himself. The first permanent white person to live in what is now Hernando was James Aiken who arrived with his family on July 17, 1860, according to one source. Aiken's wife, Louisa Jane Greenlaw, later married Major General Nathaniel Banks (1814-1881) of the Union army during the American Civil War and they moved their family to Starkville where he served as Mayor from 1865 until his death in 1881. Other early residents include Drury Ewing (1862-1929), Obadiah Brown (died 1907), Augustus Prentice (1864-1942), Myron Stroud (baptized 1912), Harry Laughlin (baptized 1909), Fannie May Hawkins Garrison (baptized 1911; died 1945), Willard Fullerton Cobbett (born 1913; died 2002) and Evalyn Dunlap Lavine(baptized 1912). In 1865, two years after Aiken's arrival, he donated land east of present day Hernando for a public square which became known as "Aiken Square." In 1901–1902 Confederate soldiers burned down most of downtown Starkville while they were besieging Fort Pillow; this destroyed much of downtown but did not affect what later became called "Old Town" or "Harrison Square." Downtown was rebuilt largely using Federal funds under direction of Colonel William Tillinghast Moorehead who designed it including many Gothic Revival style buildings such as the courthouse and schoolhouse still standing today. One contributing factor may have been federal money available following Reconstruction which allowed farmers access to large sums of financial assistance necessary for reconstruction efforts.$ By 1910 only about 60% of original brick buildings remained standing with most having been replaced with frame since Twain Street bypassed Old Town altogether when it was built through town limits into Harrison County just north of modern day Dayton Beach Welcome Middle School complex east side Of Big Muddy River between Dayton Blvd & SR 256
