They located on an old plantation about three miles east of modern day Hernando. Beall preached the first sermon in what would become Hernando on January 7th of that year. Reverend Beall served as pastor for many years until his death on October 25th, 1896. His wife Lucy continued preaching until her own death on May 24th 1893 at the age of 91 years old. Hancock County was organized on March 13th 1836 by order of President Andrew Johnson with Wm Mosely as its first commissioner In 1850 when white men began moving into this region they called it "Hancock County" not "Hernando" because that's where Spaniard Hernando was killed while exploring Florida some hundred years earlier!

Hernando is a town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,831 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The name comes from Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, who discovered and named the community in 1795 during his exploration of what is now Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area. The first permanent settler arrived in 1820 and by 1830 had built a cabin on the present site of Hernando. By 1840 there were five families living here including David Baird and Alfred Bowers who donated land for a courthouse and jail which was completed in 1845. In 1851 local physician John Aiken founded the first store in this community when he opened a grocery store near where Court House Square now stands. The town became an agricultural center with cotton production becoming an important factor early on as well as timber harvesting for building construction and other purposes. In 1907 it was reorganized as Jackson County, Mississippi under provisions of the Second National Bank Act (25 U.S.C §§ 824 et seq.). On July 15, 1917, about one week after World War I ended, Hernando's incorporation as a municipio (municipality) was accepted by Federal District Court Judge Augustus Ewing based upon its location within county lines which had been effectively affected by military hostilities across state lines that had caused many people to leave their homes or move away from their rural roots. During Reconstruction following slavery's effective abolition in 1865 Hernando saw increased development due to white settlers seeking access to farmland available along both banks of MISSISSIPPI River slave trade routes leading into Texas then Mexico City whence goods could be sold sky high at prices unheard of before Union victory over Confederate forces at Appomattox court house ending the American Civil War on April 9th 1865 thus freeing all slaves within Confederate states except Tennessee & Arkansas; however some blacks did remain until Sherman's Emancipation Proclamation removing all African Americans from central America via several Freedmen Roads starting with West Point NY thru New Orleans LA thru Lubbock TX thru Oklahoma City OK on April 14th free men/women & children age 11 years or younger being put into camps known as "New Start" near Marshalltown IA while remaining blacklisted from most white society they were required to attend public school but no work opportunities were available back then In 1933 President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 ordering all noncitizens (legal or illegal aliens) arrested or detained without trial nor any form of judicial process should be released without immediate deportation unless facing certain death penalty regardless of criminal activity such as voter fraud etc.; also anyone found guilty thereof would be deported immediately regardless if charged with anything more serious than traffic violations henceforth known as "the Feds" or euphemistically called " roundup."
