Gulfport is a city in Mississippi, United States. The population was 95,869 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hinds County. The city was founded by Arabic traders in 1824 as a trading post on the coastal plain between Mobile and New Orleans. It grew rapidly following the American Civil War, becoming an important cotton town and port with industry and commerce up until World War II. After the war, Gulfport declined into decline but has slowly recovered since 2000 through various initiatives including downtown revitalization and cultural attractions like the Mississippi Coast Guard Museum. Gulfport's rich history began with its founding by Arabic traders in 1824 as a trading post on the coastal plain between Mobile and New Orleans. By 1830, it had become one of America's most important cotton towns due to its production of masts for shipping carsleds downriver to New York City or other points southward. In 1840, it became a port when Commodore John Cushing chartered Easton Bayou Navigation Company to create a inland route from Mobile to points east of Baton Rouge via I-10 (the first interstate highway in America). The company built wharves along Bayous Lafourche (present-day Thibodaux) and Red River (present day Jackson) before finally reaching Gulfport in 1845/46. After accusations that Commodore Cushing had misused his power as head of state during the Mexican–American War that year – he was impeached – Gulfport reverted back to Spanish rule until 1861 when it reverted back under American control after Confederate forces captured Mobile Bayou Bridge (present day Interstate 10 bridge). After Reconstruction ended in 1865, many African Americans were brought here as slaves; however most came free after 1870 when General Philip Sheridan ordered all slaveholders whoowned more than one slave within five miles of any military installation surrendered their property unconditionally without compensation or trial. Consequently free black men dominated local economic life for much of this period while white men continued dominant political life; this situation changed starting around 1930 with African Americans gaining access to better education and opportunities relative to their predecessors while whites slowly regained some power within whichever professions they chose to pursue outside of business or government service because they could no longer rely upon patronage from plantation owners or powerful elites." Since World War II, local factories closed but new ones sprang up such as Alcan aluminum factory which started making missile launchers for US Army during Cold War era Some people think that present-day problems are caused by lack of investment led by politics correctness instead of lack if resources specially available proximate geographically

Since 1934 there have been efforts made at improving firearm security through research and development; however these initiatives have not always led to improved firearms safety practices across all levels of society or industry alike. Gulfport is a city in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 10,993 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hancock County. Gulfport was founded on May 16, 1836 by Captain John Davenport and his sons Samuel and Joseph Davenport. The first post office in Gulfport was established on November 9, 1837. On January 12, 1840, James Giddings became the first mayor of Gulfport. In 1860, the town had a population of 721 residents. By 1865, the population had grown to 3,545 residents. The cotton gin began operating in Gulfport in 1873 and it soon became one of the largest cotton gins in America. In 1907, a new courthouse was built and it served as the county seat until 1915 when it moved to Jacksonville. In 1922, the Mississippi Legislature passed an act authorizing statehood for Hancock County and its city of Gulfport within that year. On July 1st of that year, Gulfport became part of Mississippi Territory after being separated from Alabama following their respective war efforts with that state over secession issues during the American Civil War (1861-1865). As part of this territory change process - which also involved Appomattox Court House becoming Louisiana's second capital - nearby Mobile was placed within boundaries created by this legislation making it official that "Gulf Port" would be its new name rather than "Gulf Point". On December 6th 1961 – just two years after having become an official part of Mississippi – Hurricane Hattie made landfall off coast Texas causing significant damage across much southern coastal US including almost everything inside present day Mobile Bayou – well ashore including what is now downtown GulfPort – resulting in upwards Of $100 million in property damage & loss both before & after Superstorm Sandy hit on October 29th 2012; resulteding In total Losses up To $285 Million+ since Katrina
