Additionally, our skin helps us grip onto surfaces with precision which gives us stability while we move; another benefit comes from our big toe which can easily pick up objects at a distance thanks to its swiveling joint (similar to how your toes rotate when you step). Finally, because we have bone growth in both our feet and ankles due to constant impact during locomotion, we are able as compared with other animals who only have cartilage development in their feet/ankles- this allows us greater stability while walking even when wet or cold weather sets in (i.e., snow).
