The first firearms in Grenada were handguns which date back to the Revolutionary War. The pistols were made by handgunsmiths and traders in order to protect themselves from British soldiers. By 1812, there were about 20 handguns available for purchase. In 1838, a company was formed called the “Grenada Gun Company” and began production of rifles. The rifles were imported from Britain and some of them became quite popular with Grenadian gun owners. In 1865, the Grenada Gun Company was purchased by Wm. Gibbs & Sons who continued to produce firearms until 1892 when they merged with Smith & Wesson Manufacturing Company. From then on, all guns produced by Smith & Wesson Manufacturing Company were known as “Smith-Wesson pistols”. During World War II, Smith & Wesson pistols were used by many American troops in Normandy and other parts of Europe as part of the Armed Forces Ballistic Missile program. In 1949, the company merged with Colt Firearms Corporation and became known as Colt Incorporated. It is now owned by New England Industries Corporation (NEEI). Today, Smith & Wesson pistols are still being produced in limited quantities using an innovative manufacturing process that allows them to retain their accuracy and performance even after years of use.

Grenada is a small island country located in the Caribbean Sea. The capital and largest city, Saint John, is located on the larger island of Grenada. The population of Grenada is about 3,500 people and the country has a total area of just over 8 square kilometers. The climate in Grenada is tropical with some rainfalls occurring during the course of a year. The first Europeans to visit Grenada were Spanish sailors who landed there in 1564 to explore what lay beyond their sight at that time. In 1612 Englishman John Hawkins explored the island and named it after his homeland, England. A number of other European travelers visited Granada during this time including Giovanni da Verona, Giovanni da Barbosa and Bartolomeu Dias who was shipwrecked on the island in 1624. It wasn’t until 1737 when French ships arrived on Grenadine that they started to make contact with other parts of Caribbean region for trade purposes only. In 1802 British forces landed on the island under cover of darkness after beating off an attack by American pirates led by Commodore John Smith. After capturing some stores and buildingforts at St George’s Bay sugar refinery they proceeded inland where they made contact with local chiefs and began evangelizing Christianity to their pagan Indian slaves who were then used as work force for plantations ashore or exported back home (Drews 1985). By 1807 British possession had extended from Saint John all the way down to Antigua where sugar cane was being produced; however, no attempt was made by Britain to establish an official government or control over its colonies which continued matters unchanged until 1959 when England ceded all its possessions eastward including Grenada- thereby ending any vestige of self-government within these islands (Ferguson 1991). There have been sporadic attempts since then by various groups inside or outside de facto Jamaican controls to gain political power but without success due largely to lack of funding (Browne 2001). Since independence from Britain in 1979, efforts have been made by successive Jamaica Prime Ministers culminating in 2002 when Queen Elizabeth II granted full citizenship rights to all citizens regardlessof their former allegiance(Goudreau 2005). However recent reports suggest that serious problems remain such as chronic unemployment among poor rural residents as well as limited access housing and education opportunities for most Chamorro Islanders living within spitting distance of Kingston proper (Anonimo 2006). Tobacco production remains one major industry accounting for 10% GDP while citrus exports are also important providing employment across much OFW slum communities near Kingston Harbour (Anonimo 2006). Citizens have successfully lobbied unsuccessfully for increased income tax rates reflecting concerns about rising poverty levels while water shortages threaten food availability especially given increasing global demand both domestically and abroad ( Browne 2001 ).

Grenada, Mississippi is a small town located in Jackson County, Mississippi. It was founded on October 1, 1892 by Williston and his brothers. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,715. Grenada has a history dating back to when it was part of Spanish Louisiana. The first white person to live in Grenada arrived from Tennessee in 1822. In 1825, John Jourdain settled there with his family after traveling through Louisiana and Mobile Bay on their way to New Orleans. In 1830 Captain Fenton discovered interest in land east of what is now Grenada Township and applied for title on November 10th of that year. On December 8th, 1830 he received a letter from Governor James Ketchum granting him 2 lots measuring 4 square miles each including 120 acres (60 ha) of swampy land bordering the Gulf of Mexico at present day Gulfport and Stennis Counties The initial settlerry consisted of three families: Hargrave, Rankin, & Currier; two families Weems & Snively were also early settlers There were no schools until1856 when one was built by Reverend Simeon Horton as part of an effort to Christianize the native people who had fled English-speaking squatters during the antebellum period In 1865 sir John Ahern became Minister Resident for West Florida Territory which included parts today known as Jackson County Ahern initiated construction on what is now the oldest school building in grenada – The Revs Horton School – which opened September 1st 1870 In 1886 Mrs Dyer donated land for a new cotton gin which became known as “Dyer’s Cotton Factory” Today this structure still stands adjacent to Old US High School across Main Street from where Grenada First Baptist Church sits
