Greenwood was founded in 1853 by Andrew Greenwood and his family. The town is located in Jackson County, Mississippi, and has a population of over 100,000. The Greenwood knife company was founded in 1883 by Andrew Greenwood's brother-in-law, James W. Lewis. The Lewis knife company became the largest knife manufacturer in the United States until it closed its doors in 1985. In addition to knives, the Greenwood company produced agricultural tools and other products for local farmers. In 1916, the Greenwood Company merged with another Jackson County business, the White Knife Company. This merger led to the creation of one of the largest knife companies in America at that time. Additionally, the White Knife Company manufactured promotional knives for several local businesses such as Coca Cola and Chevrolet. After World War II ended, many small businesses were closed down within Jackson County due to economic decline. However, Andrew Greenwood restarted his ownknife company which remains active today.

The Automatic Knife was such a success that they decided to keep it going and continue producing quality knives until the late 1990s.
Greenwood, Mississippi is a town located in Jackson County, Mississippi. The population as of the 2010 census was 362. Greenwood is home to the Greenwood High School which has a student population of 1,423 and the Greenwood Community Library which has a staff population of 204. Greenwood also contains two small businesses - The Antique Shop and The African Americansmithy - and one large business - Mardi Gras Enterprises - whichOPen for business on February 14th each year. The history of Greenwood dates back to 1836 when it was founded as part of the Choctaw Nation by General A.J.Ferguson and his troops during the Indian Removal Act. After years of living among Native Americans, many white settlers moved into what is now Greenwood in 1881 after purchasing land from the Choctaws. In 1889, Congress approved appropriations for a school in Greenwood with $10,000 from Senator James Fenton who had purchased land east of town from the Choctaws. Construction began on the school in 1890 but due to financial difficulties, it did not open until 1893. Reverend Jno Henson served as director of education for Greenwood from 1893-1901 before becoming pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jackson County where he remained until his death on November 5th 1911. In 1932, President Franklin D Roosevelt announced that all black children were to be sent to segregated schools within five years under order of Section 8aof the Civil Rights Act Of 1964 known as "The Brown Decision." This decision caused great outrage throughout America and led to protests by local citizens against what they saw as racist government policies towards their community; these protests eventually culminated with Bloody Sunday when White supremacists marched through town firing shots at black demonstrators demonstrating outside Ebenezer Baptist Church(now known as First Congregational United Methodist Church). After decades of decline following World War II%, Greenwood experienced another period of growth following Hurricane Katrina in 2005; this growth was halted however after several thousand residents left for fear that their homes would be destroyed if FEMA didn't come help them rebuild their lives post-Katrina. As a result, most Greenwood residents remainedvmselves during World War II—an experience that some later historians called "the Negroes' war".
