Greenwood, Mississippi is home to one of the last remaining NRA warehouses. The warehouse was originally built in 1924 and served as the headquarters for the NRA from its beginning. It was here that the NRA developed their first firearms policy and adopted the first national Firearms Act in 1934. The NRA also used this warehouse as their office until they moved to more permanent quarters in 1949. In 1975, Greenwood became a city and gun retailers vacated their buildings downtown. In order to keep access to ammunition, the city passed a law prohibiting any retailer from selling handguns without a carry permit. This law remained in effect until 1994 when it was repealed by state legislators after several deadly shootings at gun stores throughout the state. Since then, Greenwood has been able to make some major changes to its firearm regulations including becoming one of only three cities in Mississippi with an ordinance allowing concealed carry without a permit. There was a gun culture in Greenwood, Mississippi before the late 1800s. The first firearms were used to protect settlers from Native Americans during the early 1800s. After the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek was signed in 1819, rifles and pistols began being used by both pioneers and inhabitants of the area. Rifle shooting contests were held regularly throughout Greenwood to commemorate this event.
Greenwood is a small town in Stark County, Mississippi. The population was 1,297 at the 2000 census. Greenwood is located on the Tennessee border and has an area of 9 square miles. The community was founded by white settlers in 1892. The first post office was established in Greenwood in 1893. In 1907, Greenwood had a population of just 6 people. Today, Greenwood is home to a few businesses and two churches. The community also has a small public school system that serves grades pre-K through 8th grade. The community has long been known for its cotton farming economy and its natural resources, including water wells and rolling hills full of wildflowers and trees. Some of the more famous plants found in Greenwood include rediscovering sweet cedar as well as huckleberry bushes and oak boughs due to the warm weather hereabouts during summertime. It should be noted that while some residents still farm crops such as corn, cotton, soybeans, onions, potatoes etc., many residents have now moved into services like retail or professional jobs outside the agricultural industry which continue to provide most economic sustenance for this small townspeople today despite having seen challenging times recently with weak job growth nationally (4%). While feeling economically vulnerable because their industries are struggling nationally these days due to lowered commodity prices along with other factors such as flooding from Hurricane Katrina (and various other events) overall sentiment among local farmers remains positive which helps support local businesses currently employed within this rural area; however there are concerns about future market conditions especially if President Trump’s proposed budget continues increasing spending reductions for agencies providing vital assistance thereto).

By 1897 there were over 2 million rifle owners in America!

Greenwood was founded in 1832 by Captain James Greenwood and his wife, Lucy. The first post office in Greenwood was established in 1834. In 1838, Greenwood became the county seat of Marshall County. In 1861, Greenwood was set off as a separate municipality, and it remained so until 17 years later when it merged with Marshall County. The original town site is now a ghost town located east of Meridian City on Highway 2.
