This event has been called one of the most important days in history for civil rights activism. On September 25th, 2016, President Barack Obama designated Greenwood's plaza across from Meridian High School – site of Bloody Sunday – as part of National Park Service District #4 for American History Week On July 4th each year, Greenwood celebrates America's birthday with a parade through downtown followed by fireworks displays over Lake Pontchartrain

In recent decades, efforts have been made by local officials and citizens aliketo revive growth and revitalize aspects of Greenwood’s history including restoration work on downtown streetscapes; hosting educational events related to local culture; and creating commemorative products such as postage stamps depicting some aspect Of Greenwood’s history or heritage. Despite these efforts, there is still no guarantee that future generations will continueTo call Greenwood home given its current state. Nevertheless, it is an interesting case study for understanding how suburbia can impact rural communities across America over time.
