Greenville is a city in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The population was 61,653 at the 2010 census, making it the fourth largest city in Mississippi and the fifteenth largest in Alabama. It is also one of the most populous cities in South Carolina by population. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Greenville on December 10, 1814, when Captain James Wilkinson and his party of nine men set out from Mobile Bay for a trading expedition upriver to trade with the native nations. They reached their destination on January 15, 1815, about two weeks after landing. Greenville was platted as a town on March 3, 1816 by three citizens: Elisha Hutchinson, Samuel Jordon and John Gist; its name comes from "humble flat bottom" swamp near present-day Jackson Street and Meridian Avenue where Wilkinson had landed his supplies before starting upstream for Tuscaloosa (then Montgomery). In 1840 Greenville became part of Jackson County when that county was organized from parts of Cass County and Missisippi Territory; prior to this time it had been within Union County which included much of modern day Memphis area. The cotton gin facility located just south of downtown began operation in 1892 as part of what would become known as the “Gin Belt” industry which developed throughout Northeast Mississippi due to lack thereof elsewhere in the region during that time period; major manufacturers being Pabst Blue Ribbon beers (1898), Ford Motors (1912) and General Electric (1946). By 1920 there were over 1,500 businesses operating within downtown limits alone with an employment rate above 90%. The influence exercised by mass production companies such as these led to significant changes both inside and outside downtown Greenville during that time period with many small businesses struggling against larger incumbent players while often losing key customers or employees; however local residents typically continue to identify themselves very tightly knit group through shared memories and experiences dating back more than 100 years combined! During World War II several large factories were built including AAF Plant 14 across west side street from present day Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company plant site - making southeast Mississippi home to one of America's largest military manufacturing sites - employing nearly 3500 workers engaged in all phasesof war production including aircraft engine development plants (-4% percent decline WWII HOUSTON – Air Mail Service Statistics Report), tanks (-2%), radios (+24%)and missiles (+6%). Some Steel fabricating plants also opened such as Rankin & Wheeler Company at Bridge Road/Lakefront Drive northwest corner today’s lunchroom spot where company managers could watch operations from their office building… soon after other manufacturers closed unable or unwilling to keep up with wartime demands! In 1950 Goodyear moved its corporate headquarters from Chattanooga Tennessee into nearby Beaumont Corporate Center adjacent Goodyear Aircraft factory then Goodyear left Greenville altogether becoming Beechcraft Corporation later still! Today goodyoyo ice cream store occupies same space next door since 1951!!! On November 5th 1960 Milton Hershey announced plans for a new chocolate factory complex centered around current location off I-565 between University Boulevard & Interstate 20 exit 123B just east of town center called Hershey Park USA – becoming America’s first publicly traded multinational chocolate company!!!

Greenville, Mississippi is a small town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It became an incorporated municipality on November 15, 1907. Greenville is named after Colonel John Green and his family who settled there in 1821. The first European to settle in what is now Greenville was Captain George Rogers Clark of the British military forces under General Anthony Wayne during the American Revolution. He built a log cabin here in 1797 or 1798 as part of his exploration of this area forays into new territory for the Patriots. It wasn't until 1821 that Colonel John Green moved from Kentucky to purchase land east of present-day downtown Jacksonville Township and build a home he called "Greensboro". Four years later he donated two pieces of land - one north and one south - forming today's southwest corner of Jacksonville Township and Greenville Township. In 1827 Drury Chilton came to live in Greensboro with his wife Sarah Randolph Chilton. They started a school there which continued until 1901 when it closed because of lack funding from the state legislature. In 1829-30 Gentry Waddy established himself as a doctor with practice near what is now downtown Jacksonville and opened up a dispensary there too which helped support the growth of Greensboro at that time numbering about thirty people including Mr & Mrs Waddy themselves plus their six children (one died young). By 1840 Drury had added three more rooms to his house/prescription store which functioned as both residence and medical office; by 1850 he had twenty patients coming into his store daily! In 1851 Drury's son Hosea Chilton organized another grocery store on Third Street west side Jackson County Courthouse between Adams Avenue (now Second Avenue) and Court Street opposite present day US Highway 90 Business since these days known as "The chilton Store" still operates on Third Street between Adams Avenue (now Second Avenue) & Court Street using its original brick building acrossfrompresent day US Highway 90 Business! In 1865 Rev Elisha Moulton bought out Hosea Chilton's interest in The chilton Store & ran it as A&P Mowing Service until 1902 when it also closed due to lack funding from state legislature but reopened again some years later under new ownershipspellings such as Aladdin Shop before finally closing for good around 1984 accordingto certain sources! Residents began moving away from Greensboro beginning around 1870 when steamboats arrived starting with SS Arkansas City arriving here February 25th 1870 followed by SS Meridian March 3rd 1870 then SS New Orleans April 12th 1870 all bringing people, goods, services etc back overland along pleasant old Jones Road stopping only at various plantation houses located along this route like Sunflower House next to Monroe Stabling where families would gather after picking cotton&milking horses like those used today on long trips downriver aboard steamboats disembarking just past present day Intra Coastal Pipeline right beside Grates Bridge just upstreamof Florence Dam!!! Many were employed on plantations such as Vicksburg Plantation where Master James Pemberton worked prior to being sent downriver to work for Gov Andrew Johnson early in our history continuing through mostallthe wars leading up through World War II!! After WWII many residents relocated back Eastward t oJacksonvilleMississippiincluding some who stayed thruVOLUNTEERS ERA!!!!! even experiencing droughts earlier this century before returning briefly t oGreenvilleduring2010 drought !! Most recently several families have resided here permanently thru STEAMBOAT ADDRESS EARLY NEXT YEAR!!!

The population was estimated to be over 100,000 as of 2016. The history of Greenville dates back to 1797 when a party led by Captain John Wilkinson founded the town on land that he had purchased from the Natchez Nation. Greenville grew rapidly in its early years, thanks to its location on the Yazoo River and access to fertile soil. In 1853, Greenville became a state capital; it would remain so until Jackson took over in 1901. Despite its status as a state capital, Greenville failed to achieve any major economic development until after World War II when new industries such as steel production began emerging.
