The town center began growing quickly when two general stores opened: Store A on November 13th, 1851 by Wm J Leakey and Store B by Elijah Whitehead two days later This traffic generated enough revenue that both stores were able to open side by side until 1861 when Store A closed due to financial troubles while store B continued operations until 1966 when it also closed because of financial difficulties like most small towns do at this time In 1870 John G Beale founded what would become Beale Aircraft Company which manufactured airships including one built under license for US Army World War I . Many other businesses followed including several banks early 1900’s such as Fidelity National Bank & Trust Company Finally during World War II General Motors established its main plant here known as GM Plant No 5 During reconstruction following Katrina many residents left their homes inland for fear they would be flooded if boats couldn't get into New Orleans due to high water levels caused by Hurricane Katrina Some local businesses saw an opportunity post-Katrina not only because customers increased but also because there were few jobs available inland so they started offering rebates or giving out free items like water filters or extra cans of food However not all businesses have been successful even though some have seen growth such as convenience store chain Blockbuster which reopened after being shut down post-Katrina Despite these challenges some communities have seen double digit population growth rates over the past ten years especially since 2000 when satellite imaging became more accurate making it possible see patterns within community demographics

The municipal government of Greenville changed from an individual township form into aweak consolidated government following this change.
