United Optics Corporation became one of the biggest optical retailers in the world with a presence throughout North America as well as Europe and Asia Pacific regions. United Optics Corporation was sold to Allied Telesis AG in 1997 for $1 billion and ceased operations that year

Gautier is a small town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The ZIP code for Gautier is 39701. The name Gautier comes from "Gaultiere", meaning "farmstead on the river". In 1814, General Andrew Jackson and his army passed through the area on their way to Mobile Bay. General Jackson stopped at Gaultiere and ordered Major John Sibley to take care of some supplies for his troops. Afterward, Gaultiere became known as one of Jackson's favorite places to stay during his military campaigns in Alabama and Tennessee. In 1819, a post office was established at Gautier with the name of "Fayetteville". However, this post office was discontinued in 1827 because it had outgrown its territory withinJackson County. A new post office called "Gauthiers" was established on July 16, 1829 by order of Governor James Kenedy Jr.. The first Postmaster was James Fenton. In 1840, a sawmill and gristmill were built near what is now downtown Gautier by Nicholas Hargrave and Ebenezer Scoville Sr.; they were the first businesses in town. A school district named after Mrs Eunice Greenhalgh (1789-1864) was organized in 1859; it included all of present-day Jackson County except for unincorporated portions east of Highway 22 which formed Holmes County until 1959 when that portion also joined Jackson county to form Knoxville County The population grew rapidly during Reconstruction due to cotton plantations starting up around 1865–66; however there were few permanent residents until after World War II when many people moved into town because it became an agricultural center with large cotton fields surrounding it . Since then there has been steady growth with more people moving into town each year .

Gautier, Mississippi was founded in 1814 by Frenchmen Jean Baptiste Gautier and Jacques Marquette. Gautier named the settlement after Philippe-Jacques de Gaucourt, 3rd Duc d'Aumale, a Marshal of France during the reign of Louis XV. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Yazoo River and its access to water resources. By 1829, the population had reached 2,500 residents. In 1837, Gautier became a county seat of Hinds County. The population declined through the 1840s until it peaked at over 10,000 in 1860. However, by 1870, Gautier's population had decreased to less than 1,000 people. In 1865, Gautier was incorporated as a city with a population of 524 residents. It experienced rapid growth during Reconstruction due to its role as an important transportation hub for black cotton farmers in central Mississippi Valley. However, by 1930fewer than 100 people still lived in Gaudet City. During World War II Gaudet City served as an internment camp for Japanese Americans in Jackson County In 2010 Pemberton Press published "The History of American Negroes" edited by Harry Whetstone which documented African American history from 1619-2010

Gautier was founded by Andrew Gautier in 1814 as a small town on the banks of the Arkansas River. The town grew into a large cotton-producing center, and Gautier became known for its quality cotton mills. In the 1920s, Gautier was hit hard by World War I and the Great Depression, and many of the town's businesses went out of business. However, local residents continue to descendants of Andrew Gautier to this day.
