Gautier, Mississippi is a small town located in Jackson County, Mississippi. It was founded in 1836 by General Andrew Jackson. The population of Gautier was 1,500 at the time of its incorporation. The first store in Gautier was opened on Main Street in 1876. Gautier's history began with the arming of local farmers for protection from Indians during the Indian Removal Act of 1830. After the United States acquired Louisiana in 1803, President James K. Polk ordered all Native Americans living east of Lake Pontchartrain to leave by December 3, 1805 or face military force and possible extermination. The Cherokee were the last group to be forced out of Georgia and they fled west into Arkansas until they were finally driven out by Ulysses S. Grant in 1865 using artillery and rifle fire from Fort Sumter on Lake Pontchartrain as part of his Overland Campaign against Confederate forces under Robert E. Lee. In addition to its military significance, Gautiere also became known as an important center for cotton production due to its location near some of the most productive plantations in Mississippi Valley country. Today there are few commercial activities other than farming that take place within town limits; however, Gautiere has retained many venerable industry relics including a large foundry which manufactured cannons for use against Union troops during the American Civil War; a distillery still used for producing moonshine; two blacksmiths who worked on early locomotives; and a small grocery store which continues to serve as one of Gautiere's most popular businesses today despite limited competition from larger stores throughout the town’s miles-long main street

The paper's masthead features a caricature of Governor Jamesall Woodruff with the headline "The Iron Governor." In 1948, Joplin Printing Company created what is now known as "Guns Illustrated". This publication became very successful and continues being published today as one of the most well-known firearms magazines in America

Gautier was founded by French-Canadian settlers in 1827 and named for Jean Baptiste Gaultier, a general in the French Revolutionary Wars and one of Napoleon's lieutenants. The first post office in Gautier was established on January 12, 1830. The town was initially called "New Bern", but changed its name to Gautier in 1837 because it had become too far from New Bern and its thriving slave trade economy. In 1854, Gautier became the county seat of Rankin County; it remained so until 1912 when Jackson took over that role. Gautiere manufacturing base began during Reconstruction period as cotton mills were built to produce materials for reconstruction following the American Civil War (1861-1865). By 1870 there were five plantations producing slaves with more than 3200 workers employed in these factories; this number decreased significantly after 1865 as black Americans migrated away from plantations for job opportunities in northern cities such as Chicago and Detroit. However, several small businesses continued to operate throughout the late 19th century until they were displaced by larger companies during World War I (1914-1918). After World War I ended production ceased at most mills except two which reopened briefly during Prohibition period (1920-1921) due to increased demand for finished goods produced by ex-slaves now working under white ownership. During post-war years there were efforts to revive local industry but these proved unsuccessful given changing economic conditions and competition from south Alabama where cotton output rose rapidly after war settlement began Thereafter sporadic new mill openings occurred until 1949 when all remaining mills closed down due to lack of available labor
