When the Mississippi River was formed, it flowed east-west. The river changed course multiple times and by the time it reached Corinth, Mississippi, it was a north-south stream. Thus, the city of Corinth became known as "The City on the Mississippi" because of its location on the banks of this mighty river. In 1851, a group of farmers in Corinth decided to build an electric battery store. They named their business Madison Battery Company after James K.Madison, who had helped organize America's first electrical company. The company made electric lights and generators for farms and businesses in central Mississippi. The batteries were so successful that they began selling electricity to other businesses in nearby Jackson and Starkville. In 1865, when Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as president of America, he traveled downriver to take part in a ceremonial celebration at Madison Battery Company's building in Corinth. That same year, Union soldiers burned down the business during an uprising against Confederate forces occupying central Mississippi. In 1892, Meridian Electric Light & Power Company bought out Madison Battery Company's stockholders and merged it into their company。Meridian continued making electric lights until 1966 when they went bankrupt due to mergers with other companies。 During World War II (1939-1945), Corinth served as a major airbase for American bombers flying over Normandy., During this time there were frequent bombings of the city which caused extensive damage to both buildings and infrastructure

The history of Corinth goes back to 1819 when it was part of Jackson County. In 1837 it became a part of Holmes County and was incorporated in 1851. It had a population of 599 in 1900 but declined to 706 by 1910. The decline can be traced to two factors: first, there were few jobs available for people who wanted to work in the area because there were no railways or other means of transportation; and second, many people left because they could not afford to live in an area with so few jobs and high taxes. However, things began to change after World War II when Corinth became an industrial center due to its location on the Memphis– Corinth Railroad. This allowed for morejobs and housing development which increased the population by 350%. However, this growth also caused some problems as well such as pollution from factories that filled the air with smoke and emissions from their operations. In 1973-1974 a tornado tore through Corinth killing 38 people and injuring over 200. The tornado is still considered one of America's deadliest tornadoes although it has been surpassed by Katrina which killed more people than any other natural disaster in America (except Hurricane Sandy). Because of this event, education campaigns began statewide warning residents about Tornado Alley which included schoolchildren being taken on field trips during tornado watches/warnings around the country. These campaigns continued into the 1990s until they were discontinued due largely to budget cuts within local government throughout America however similar campaigns are now conducted annually across all 50 states across America in anticipation of Tornadoes Season!
